Despite seemingly knowing what’s good for them, people keep lining up to take a punch to the gut from former World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall.
In a new video reminiscent of his viral episode with Olympic gymnast Nile Wilson, ‘The Beast’ invites British bodybuilder, model, and physique competitor Ryan Terry to join him for a workout. Hall is quick to note that Terry, 32, is one of the world’s more prominent physique competitors, having placed first in the men’s physique division of the Arnold Classic in 2017. (In short, he’s no slouch.)
As the clip begins, Terry and Hall are seen warming up together in the gym, with Terry confessing that he’s never had much in the way of any meaningful boxing training. In a bit of showmanship, Hall asks the jacked, 5’10”, 187-pound athlete to take a few free shots, minus any protective gear, and increasing the intensity each time.
While it’s a safe assumption that a bodybuilder of Terry’s stature packs a much harder punch than, say, a diminutive gymnast like Nile Wilson, Hall is still undeterred, barely flinching as Terry lands blow after blow to his exposed chest.
Then, finally, it’s Terry’s turn. Like Wilson before him (RIP), Terry wisely opts for some thick, six-inch protective gear around his midsection. After slipping on a pair of 20-ounce gloves, Hall warms up with a punch at “20 percent” intensity and asks Terry how he feels.
“Horrible,” Terry replies, laughing.
By the time Hall reaches 100 percent power, you might expect to see Terry knocked halfway across the gym, Looney Tunes-style, given the suspenseful buildup. To his credit, the bodybuilder takes his shots and remains standing on his two feet—mostly. “I’m trying to play it cool but as soon as the camera’s off I’m going to be….” he says after stripping off the gear, pretending to vomit. “Honestly, [the punch] ricochets all the way through,” he adds.
Hall can only hope that Thor “The Mountain” Bjornsson has a similar reaction when the two strongmen finally meet for their much-publicized bout currently slated for September 2021 in Las Vegas.
