Bella Hadid Makes Out with a Computer-Generated Fembot for Calvin Klein … But LGBTQ Advocates Call it “Queer-Baiting”

Bella Hadid’s spotlight video ad from Calvin Klein’s current #Mytruth campaign is certainly provocative. It has the in-demand model making out with a female, CGI-generated social media fashion influencer named “Lil Miquela.”

However, many members of the LGBTQ community blasted Bella and Calvin Klein for intentionally using “queer baiting” techniques to drive interest in the video ad.

“Who is gonna tell Calvin Klein you’re supposed to wait until June for your tone-deaf queer-bait campaigns,” tweeted New York Magazine author Madison Kircher. “Lil Miquela and Bella Hadid out here smooching two weeks too early!!!”

Calvin Klein responded to the backlash on social media, saying, in part –

This specific campaign was meant to challenge conventional norms and stereotypes in advertising. In this particular video, we explored he blurred lines between reality and imagination … We sincerely regret any offense we caused.”
