Camila Coelho is basically a celebrity. As a global fashion and beauty influencer working with brands like Dior and Louis Vuitton, the Brazilian-born brand ambassador has amassed an Instagram following that could rival any Hollywood star. So, it comes as little surprise that she would be a recipient of the golden ticket—an invite to the highly exclusive and much-talked-about Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Annual guests include bold-faced names like Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kanye West, and Kim Kardashian just to name a few.
This year, iconic designer and former President of the CFDA, Diane von Furstenberg selected Coelho to be her guest at the annual gala, along with her granddaughter Tatiana von Furstenberg. This meant DVF would work with Coelho on a custom dress for the big night, and walk the red carpet with the influencer by her side.
“Being invited by such an iconic woman and designer, like Diane, being dressed by her, sitting at her table, literally holding hands with her (that’s what she said, she better hold my hand!) it shows that it’s opening a door for all of us influencers,” Coelho told Bazaar while getting ready at New York’s Peninsula Hotel.
Coelho enlisted the help of trusted stylists, Jen Atkin for hair, and Patrick Ta for makeup to help pull her whole ’70s-inspired look together. To interpret the “Camp” theme, they played off the eye-catching print of her plunging-neckline gown, and went for bold fuschia eyes— and added in hair extensions to make Coelho’s hair long and wavy.
