Doubling down on her apology, the ‘Jane the Virgin’ actress says on her Instagram account that watching her infamous video that lands her in hot water ‘has shaken me to my core.’
AceShowbiz –Gina Rodriguez has doubled down on her apology following the backlash that she received for saying the N-word in a new video. Taking to her Instagram account on Tuesday, October 15, the “Jane the Virgin” star admitted to feeling humiliated by the backlash.
“In song or in real life, the words that I spoke, should not have been spoken,” so the actress began. “I grew up loving the Fugees and Lauryn Hill. I thoughtless sang along to the lyrics of a favorite song, and even worse, I posted it. The word I sang, carried with a legacy of hurt and pain that I cannot even imagine. Whatever consequences I face for my actions today, none will be more hurtful than the personal remorse I feel.”
Gina went on saying that watching her infamous video “has shaken me to my core,” before adding, “It is humiliating that this has to be a public lesson but it is indeed a much deserved lesson. I feel so deeply protective and responsible to the community of color but I have let this community down. I have some serious learning and growing to do and I am so deeply sorry for the pain I have caused.”
Earlier during the day, Gina landed in hot water after she posted on Instagram Stories a video of her singing along to Fugees’ “Ready or Not”, which featured the derogatory word. The “Big Mouth” voice actress later deleted the video and posted an apology video in which she said, “Hey, what’s up everybody. I just wanted to reach out and apologize. I am sorry if I offended anyone by singing along to The Fugees, to a song I love, that I grew up on, I love Lauryn Hill and I really am sorry if I offended you.”
However, many people did not buy her apology and called her out even more because they thought that her apology was fake. “This sounds like a parody of an apology,” one person said, while someone else wrote, “This stinks.”
