Kate Garraway shares daughter’s message to public

Kate Garraway, 53, explained she had been absent from social media in recent weeks as she took some time out from the platforms. The Good Morning Britain host spoke candidly about her latest move as she addressed her husband Derek Draper’s health.

Kate’s husband has been in hospital since March 2020 after coronavirus led to further health complications, including holes in his lungs and diabetes.

Her 53-year-old spouse has endured a long battle with the virus as the presenter gave an update on his outlook.

Taking to Instagram, the mum-of-two shared a snap of her new book The Power of Hope.

The emotionally charged novel aims to shed a light on Kate’s husband’s long fight with Covid.

She explained her other half’s health struggles were “far from over” as the Smooth Radio presenter shared a message.

“Hello everyone – I’ve not been on here for a while as I’ve been taking time to gather myself and focus like everyone else on getting through this latest lockdown,” Kate remarked, in view of her 971,000 followers.

“The pandemic is far from over and so is Derek’s journey but I have decided to share our story and what’s helping to keep me going, as we all try to work out what our new futures will look like.”

The GMB host concluded: “I am really hoping that it will help you with all that you are going through.”

Fans flocked to comment on the post, as one wrote: “Sending love and strength during this difficult time. You are one strong lady!”

Another penned: “I would love to read your story, Kate. You are a brave and wonderful lady.

“Don’t know how you have held on and got through the last year. Hoping you and the children are well. Always hoping that Derek will recover well and be with you all again.”

“I don’t know how you are coping at all Kate, you are such an inspiration to all,” a third person added.

Her book is expected to coincide with an ITV documentary she is also making about her and Derek’s health journey.

The GMB host shares two children Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11 with her second husband, whom she married in 2005.

She has previously opened up about the small milestones Derek has made over recent months.

Back in November, Kate revealed her other half had mouthed his first words.

Earlier this month, the GMB presenter said she got to visit her spouse in the hospital.

Speaking on the show following her Christmas break, she recalled: “There was a lovely moment which we did have. We did, over the period, get to see Derek, and the children did, so that was amazing.

“Of course, it was very heightened with emotion, because he’s very changed.”
