Katie Thurston and Her 'Bachelorette' Fiancé Blake Moynes Have Broken Up

It feels like just yesterday that Bachelor Nation gushed as Katie Thurston’s season 17 of The Bachelorette ended in a blissful engagement to Blake Moynes. But in sad news today, the couple announced their split on Instagram. They included the same caption, which read:

“It is with mutual love and respect that we have decided to go our separate ways. We are so grateful for the moments we shared together and the entire journey that has unfolded this year, but we ultimately have concluded that we are not compatible as life partners, and it is the most caring choice for both of us to move forward independently. We ask for kindness and privacy as we both navigate this transition. Both of us will forever want the best for one another and ask you to please support us in our decision.”

The breakup news comes as a huge shock to everyone who ships Katie and Blake, especially since the duo was having talks about family planning not too long ago.

Blake lives in Canada, and per Katie’s Instagram bio, it seemed like she was spending a lot of time in the country to be with her beau. Yet that likely didn’t stop the general difficulties and complications that come with living in different countries. Shortly after their engagement was public, Katie talked about some of the challenges she and Blake were facing when it came to literal physical distance: “I don’t think people fully understand what it’s like to date someone from another country and the rules behind that and the visas behind that,” said Katie in an Instagram Story, according to Us Weekly. “I think right now Blake can only be here for 60 days before having to go back to Canada, so we really do have a lot we have to look into—and we just haven’t yet—before we can plan really anything else.”

Nothing has been disclosed about why Katie and Blake broke up, but the joint statement is a good sign that things are at least amicable. We hope they’ll both be OK as they move forward!
