While the Academy Awards may have snubbed Regina King for the Best Director nom for 2021, the first-time feature director did earn herself nominations with the Golden Globes, the Directors Guild of America, and the Black Reel Awards (via IMDb). The latter of which she just won. In fact, King’s One Night in Miami… won a total of five awards at the Black Reel Awards that took place on April 11, according to Deadline.
That’s just more awards to add to the multi-hyphenated artist’s trophy case. King already has an Oscar for her Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for If Beale Street Could Talk in 2018, along with four Emmys, according to Entertainment Weekly. And, despite not having that director nom, One Night in Miami… is still up for three awards at the 2021 Academy Awards on April 25. That’s a feat no other Oscar-winning actor has achieved with their first directorial debut film, which just goes to show that Regina King is unstoppable.
Regina King is a director to watch
The actor even has an impressive $12 million net worth to go along with all those accolades, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The $12 million is the sum of over 30 years of working in the entertainment industry, and it’s just the start for King. Now that she is an award-winning director on his first feature film, you can expect that there’s more to come.
In fact, Variety even dubbed King as a director to watch, but the actor/director did say, “It is not lost on me that the respect that I’ve garnered as an actor definitely carried over as a director” and some younger directors won’t “have that walking in.” However, King definitely earned that respect. She is even tied with Alfre Woodard as the most awarded Black performer at the Emmys with her four wins (via Chicago Tribune). And while she may have walked in with respect, she definitely continues to keep it after the amazing work she did with One Night in Miami… .
