‘Rise of Skywalker’ Will Be the Last ‘Star Wars’ Movie for a While

To say Star Wars fans have been spoiled over the last few years is an understatement.

We’ve had The Force Awakens, Rogue One, The Last Jedi, Solo, and The Rise of Skywalker coming next month. Given it took nearly 30 years for the first six Star Wars films to arrive, it’s tough to have too much beef with Lucasfilm–whether you liked The Last Jedi or not.

But it looks like the franchise is taking a break after The Rise of Skywalker, as Disney CEO Bob Iger announced on Thursday (November 7) that the movies are going “into a hiatus for a few years” (via Variety).

Iger’s announcement comes one week after the news that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss had “regretfully stepped away” from working on the next Star Wars trilogy.

Last Jedi director Rian Johnson also recently admitted he’s uncertain when his new trilogy will go into production, while the Star Wars film Marvel boss Kevin Feige is developing won’t be ready for a good while yet.

So make sure to really enjoy The Rise of Skywalker–it could be a few years before the next one arrives in theaters.

Of course, although the movies are taking a breather, you will still have a fix of new Star Wars at home.

The first episode of The Mandalorian will be released on Disney’s new streaming service Disney+ next week.
