Rita Ora 'deeply sorry' for hosting 30th birthday party with 30 friends

Rita Ora has issued an apology for breaking lockdown rules by inviting 30 friends to celebrate her 30th birthday over the weekend, admitting she is ’embarrassed’ and ‘deeply sorry’.

The Your Song singer celebrated her milestone birthday at a West London restaurant with pals such as Cara and Poppy Delevingne and Vas J Morgan in attendance.

It breached the current lockdown rules in England which state restaurants and pubs should be open for takeaway and delivery only, while people are not allowed to mix indoors or outside in groups larger than six.

Apologising for her actions, Rita told The Sun in a statement: ‘Hello all, I attended a small gathering with some friends to celebrate my 30th birthday.

‘It was a spur of the moment decision made with the misguided view that we were coming out of lockdown and this would be OK… I’m deeply sorry for breaking the rules and in turn understand that this puts people at risk.’

She continued: ‘This was a serious and inexcusable error of judgement. Given the restrictions, I realise how irresponsible these actions were and I take full responsibility .

‘I feel particularly embarrassed knowing first-hand how hard people have worked to combat this terrible illness and being fully aware of the sacrifices that people and businesses have made to help keep us all safe.

‘Even though this won’t make it right, I want to sincerely apologise.’

Rita was likely referring to her mother Vera Sahatciu who returned to work with the NHS earlier this year to help during the coronavirus pandemic.

The singer’s guests were seen arriving at Casa Cruz restaurant in pictures obtained by newspaper.

Sources said: ‘There were a number of guests, all dressed up very glamorously, and everyone entered the building through the back, with security watching the front to make sure no one else went in.’

‘It went on until the early hours,’ they added.

Lockdown restrictions in England do not lift until Wednesday but the country will then use the tier system dependant on the area, meaning some areas will have harsher restrictions than others.

It was revealed last week that London will be placed under tier 2 which will allow restaurants to open to customers if substantial food is served.
