Safiyya Vorajee has hit out at former health secretary Matt Hancock after she "followed the rules" with her daughter Azaylia while she was losing her battle to leukaemia.

The 33 year old and her partner Ashley Cain, 30, tragically lost their baby girl in late April amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The pair had raised £1.6 million to for a treatment in Singapore before being hit with the news that the disease had spread to her brain, which meant the treatment was tragically no longer an option.

After seeing pictures of Mr Hancock, 42, kissing his aide Gina Coladangelo, 43, in Whitehall – which were taken by The Sun – the grieving mum couldn't help but take to her Instagram stories to share her views.

Safiyya said she was "disheartened" by the scenes plastered across the news and social media and felt disappointed that he "broke the rules" while she stuck to them throughout her daughter Azaylia's failing health.

"I was just in mid conversation and thought I’d share it with you guys about the whole Matt Hancock situation," she told her 1.1million follower while dressed in an Azaylia-themed orange T-shirt.

Safiyya, who recently sang to her late daughter as her grave, continued: "And I feel really disheartened that this has all come to light about what he’s done really, because being in a hospital for such a long time and following all these restrictions and not being able to do so much and having time with your family together…"

“And then seeing him doing what he did is so disappointing," she added before asking her followers what they thought of the situation.

Mr Hancock has since resigned from his position as he released a statement on Saturday, 26 June: "The last thing I would want is for my private life to distract attention from the single-minded focus that is leading us out of this crisis.

"I want to reiterate my apology for breaking the guidance, and apologise to my family and loved ones for putting them through this.

"I also need to be with my children at this time.

"We owe it to people who have sacrificed so much in this pandemic to be honest when we have let them down as I have done by breaching the guidance."

In response, Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote: "You should leave office very proud of what you have achieved – not just in tackling the pandemic, but even before Covid-19 struck us."
