Smiling Queen in high spirits as she meets Switzerland president days after 96th birthday

The Queen looked happier and more jubilant than she has in a while as she met the president of Switzerland just days after turning the incredible age of 96.

The monarch, who is set to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee in June, was all-smiles as she posed for photographs with Ignazio Cassis and his wife Paola.

She also looked much more agile than in previous weeks and even appeared without her walking stick.

Wearing a stunning light blue and turquoise silk dress, the Queen enjoyed chatting to the politician and shook his hand.

She opted to accessorise her outfit with a layered pearl necklace, matching earrings and her often-worn wrist watch.

The Royal also chose a delicate brooch and black patented brogues for the engagement, as she stood in the Oak Room sitting room at Windsor Castle.

The Queen had been enjoying a few days relaxing in her Sandringham estate for her birthday, but it was back to business as usual yesterday, as she flew back to Berkshire in her private helicopter.

She was also pictured being driven away from her Wood Farm cottage in a trusty Range Rover car as she headed back to her main residence.

The monarch is said to have chosen to spend her 96th birthday in the cottage because it was a place her husband, the late Prince Philip, particularly loved staying in.

The Duke of Edinburgh even chose to live out most days of his retirement there.

The Queen's meeting comes as her granddaughter Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi flew to Sweden to meet Prince Carl Philip and his wife Princess Sofia as they collaborated on a special charity event together in aid off dyslexia awareness.

The Royal couple were also pictured smiling next to Queen Sylvia in Stockholm Palace.

Back in the UK, 33 year old Beatrice's sister Princess Eugenie, 32, was also sharing news as she announced the launch of her new podcast Floodlight.

The project, formed with her close friend Julia de Boinville, will focus on a cause close to both of their hearts, which is trying to stamp out modern slavery.

The first episode will see the duo interview prosecutor Caroline Haughey QC, and later on in the series British actresses such as Dame Emma Thompson will even make an appearance.
