Sting hung out at Goldbar on Thursday night for his pal Shaggy’s release party for his album, “Wah Gwaan?!” (Jamaican for “What’s going on?”), a follow-up to his Grammy-winning joint album with Sting, “44/876.”
Shaggy told us, “Goldbar is cracking tonight! We’re celebrating this city’s role in the history and support of dancehall music. Big up New York and all of my loyal reggae people around the world. Wah gwaan?!”
At about 1 a.m., Shaggy took the mic and, after thanking his longtime supporters, was joined by Internet sensation Noah Powa to perform dancehall anthem “Money Up” from the new album. Also in the packed Soho club were Shaggy collaborator Rayvon, DJ Pupdawg, DJ Buck, chairman of Shaggy’s label 300 Entertainment Kevin Liles, Jamaican artist Christopher Martin and Afro B., who wrote worldwide smash “Drogba (Joanna).
