As Willow Smith comes out as ‘polyamorous’ meet the other stars who have enjoyed sex with multiple lovers

SINGER Willow Smith has revealed she is polyamorous, describing it as an alternative to “antiquated” monogamy.

The 20-year-old musician opened up in the latest episode of Red Table Talk, the chat show hosted by her mother Jada Pinkett Smith.

She said: “With polyamory. I feel like the main foundation is the freedom to be able to create a relationship style that works for you and not just stepping into monogamy because that’s what everyone around you says is the right thing to do.

“So I was like, how can I structure the way that I approach relationships with that in mind?”

She’s not the only celebrity to take a non-traditional approach to love.

Here we reveal the stars that have dabbled with polyamorous and open relationships.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith

IT appears that Willow is following in the footsteps of her A-list parents.

Since saying 'I do' in 1997, Will and Jada have acknowledged their union is a bit unconventional.

Back in February 2005, Will, 52, revealed. "Our perspective is, you don't avoid what's natural.

“You're going to be attracted to people. In our marriage vows, we didn't say 'forsaking all others'.

“The vow that we made was that you will never hear that I did something after the fact."

Actress Jada, 49, said: "I've always told Will, 'You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be OK,' because at the end of the day, Will is his own man.

“I'm here as his partner, but he is his own man. He has to decide who he wants to be and that's not for me to do for him. Or vice versa."

Bella Thorne

MODEL and actress Bella Thorne enjoyed a relationship with both male rapper Mod Sun, 34, and female YouTuber Tana Mongeau, 22.

The 23-year-old described the relationship in 2019, saying: "I don't think anybody will really understand the bonds that I share with Mod or Tana.

“Yeah, we joke around about poly, but we aren't in the sense that we don't put a word, a box, or label too many things. It is what it is."

But the ‘throuple’ are no more and Bella is engaged to Italian pop star Benjamin Mascolo, 27.

Emily Atack

The Inbetweeners star revealed last year that she had embarked on a relationship with a married couple.

While it was all “fun and fingering” at first – things soon soured.

Jungle Queen Emily, 31, said: “I met this guy in a pub. After a bit of flirting and texting, he announces that he’s married but it’s OK because he and his wife have an open relationship and she wants to meet me.

“Now for some people that would be a red flag, but I’m like a bull. Red flags drive me wild. It was all fun and fingering for a bit until they both started falling in love with me."

She added that it got a “little bit boring” when she found herself caught in a "messy love triangle".

The actress said: “I sat them down and said: ‘Guys, you have some issues you need to work out and s***ging me is not the answer. I think you just need to talk to each other.’

“You think breaking up with one person is awkward, try breaking up with two.”

Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green

HOLLYWOOD couple Megan, 34 and Brian Austin Green, 47, allegedly had a one-sided open relationship.

A source told the New York Daily News in 2009:  "They've agreed to an open relationship where Megan can see other men but Brian can't date anyone else."

Megan has recently found new love with the musician Machine Gun Kelly, 31, months after splitting from her husband.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

DURING their 13 years together – before their divorce in 2016 – Brad and Angelina reportedly vowed not to “restrict” each other when it came to romance.

Speaking before their divorce in 2016, Angelina, 45, said: "I doubt that fidelity is absolutely essential for a relationship," Jolie allegedly said in an interview with German publication Das Neue.

She added: "It's worse to leave your partner and talk badly about him afterwards. Neither Brad nor I have ever claimed that living together means to be chained together. We make sure that we never restrict each other."

Fight Club star Brad, 57, last year enjoyed a short-lived romance with Nicole Poturalski, 28, who was reported to be in an open marriage with German restaurateur Roland Mary, 68.

Gemma Collins and Arg

HEARTBROKEN Gemma dumped her on/off love James 'Arg' Argent last summer after he told her that he wants an open relationship.

Sources close to the pair told The Sun Arg, 33, has been left inspired by US actor Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

A source said: "Arg went to Spain and he told Gemma that he wants to go back there forever and be in an open relationship like Jada and Will.

Gemma, 44, was left “shocked and “absolutely heartbroken”, the source claimed.

Tilda Swinton and John Byrne

AT one point Tilda, 60, lived in Scotland with her twins and their father, playwright John Byrne, 81.

But the family were also joined by her lover, Sandro Kopp, an artist nearly 20 years her junior.

Tilda described the arrangement as “sane”.

"We are all a family," she said. "What you must also know is that we are all very happy.”

Tilda and John split in 2005 and the actress moved in with Sandro, 43, three years later.

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore

IT was long rumoured that the Hollywood couple shared an open relationship, but Demi spilled the beans in her 2019 autobiography.

In the 58-year-old’s memoir Inside Out she claimed that in the early days of their union she agreed to take part in two threesomes.

“I wanted to show him how great and fun I could be,” Demi said.

However, she later viewed the adventurous encounters as a “mistake” when learning Ashton, now 43, had slept with 21-year-old Brittney Jones in their marital home.

She said: “Because we had brought a third party into our relationship, Ashton said, that blurred the lines and, to some extent, justified what he’d done.”

The relationship broke down and the pair finalised their divorce in 2013

Gwyneth Paltrow

BEFORE their “conscious uncoupling”, Gwyneth and Chris Martin, 44, reportedly had an open relationship during periods of their 10-year marriage.

A source allegedly told Access Hollywood: "If Chris was playing around, Gwyneth didn't care. She's never been jealous or territorial. Her philosophy is, 'We're both adults. We make our own choices.'"

While the couple never revealed the intimacies of their marriage, Gwyneth, 48, said she would want to be “forgiving and/or forgiven” if there was cheating in a relationship.

“But I can’t give an honest answer as I haven’t really experienced that,” she said.

Scarlett Johansson

WHILE Scarlett, 36, has never spoken about being in an polyamorous relationship, she gave an indication that she might be more open minded than most in a 2017 interview.

The Avengers star – who married Colin Jost, 38, in 2020 – said: “I think the idea of marriage is very romantic, it’s a beautiful idea, and the practice of it can be a very beautiful thing.

“I don’t think it’s natural to be a monogamous person. I might be skewered for that, but I think it’s work. It’s a lot of work, and the fact that it is such work for so many people—for everyone—the fact of that proves that it is not a natural thing."

She added: “It’s something I have a lot of respect for and have participated in, but I think it definitely goes against some instinct to look beyond.”

Shailene Woodley

IN April 2020, the Big Little Lies star opened up about her experience with open relationships.

Shailene, 29, said: "Listen, I'm someone who has experienced both an open relationship and a deeply monogamous relationship in my life and I think we're in a day and age where there should be no rules except for the ones designed by two people in a partnership — or three people, whatever floats your boat!"

She added: “But there has to be a level of responsibility in any relationship dynamic, and that responsibility is simply honesty and communication and trust.

“Apart from that, it's really none of our business what people choose to do with their lives."

Six years earlier she had mused that she didn’t know if “humans are genetically made to be with one person forever”.
