I swapped a council house on Facebook and turned it into my dream home… I did all the work myself thanks to YouTube vids | The Sun

A SAVVY woman has shared how she swapped her council house and quickly got to work transforming it into her dream home.

Olivia Clayton, 26, from Newcastle, joined a Facebook group and found the perfect two-bed terrace home to swap hers with.

But when she arrived, she quickly realised it wasn’t up to her standards and took it upon herself to give it a much needed makeover.

After realising the carpets were covered in wee, care assistant Olivia did some research on platforms like YouTube to fix the issue.

Taking to her TikTok account, she documented the process of sprucing up the space from when she moved in back in April 2021.

Painting over a yellow and blue wall, she told viewers that “every room was multi-coloured” when she first arrived.

Explaining that it took an “endless” amount of painting to cover all the patterns in each room, she eventually showed off the finished results of her hard work with the roller.

It wasn’t just the walls that needed some TLC though as the grout throughout the house needed “endless scrubbing” as well.

Olivia said she “gutted” every room, cleaned everything down and removed the kitchen counter wraps to reveal what appeared to be granite underneath.

She then showed the “damp, urine stained floor,” which she wrote alongside a crying emoji.

In other areas of the house, she found cupboards covered in grease and dirt, which she had to clean up.

And while she did most of the work herself, she admitted that she couldn’t take credit for putting “new flooring down”.

She also got new appliances fitted, including an oven, as well as new cupboard doors.

Showing off the new doors, she said “this was so hard and took so long.”

Olivia continued: “Good money saver but not sure if I’d advise. From measuring the units, fitting the doors making sure they’re straight, attaching handles that are all in line with eachother”. [sic]

She replaced the blinds and vinyl wrapped the benches, too, before moving on to sorting out the garden.

Olivia cleaned the outdoor space, before putting some gravel down with a tiny well in the middle.

She painted the fence, put a picnic table outside and a little shed for her daughter to play in as well.

While it may have taken her some time and a lot of effort, @oliviaxamber1 eventually got the house to look exactly how she imagined it to be.

Sharing the whole process on her TikTok, viewers were left impressed with the transformation and took to the comments section to share their thoughts.
