Quilted jackets are the perfect way to stay snug as the temperature plummets, says Jane Moore

THERE’S a definite autumn chill in the air but it’s not yet biting enough to warrant a thick coat.

So a quilted jacket is the perfect wardrobe staple to help the transition from summer through to winter.

This one, in khaki green, is light to wear but padded enough to give that much-needed layer of warmth when the temperature drops.

When you don’t need it, as it’s super-light, it will fold up small enough to fit in a medium-to-large handbag.

Underneath, I’m wearing a gloriously light, non-creasable maxi dress in warm autumnal hues, teamed with on-trend knee-high boots in a neutral, buttery cream.

The outfit is finished off with a small tan handbag that goes with pretty much everything.

This jacket complements the colours in the dress, but would look equally good with jeans and a jumper too.

Autumn is my favourite season for fashion and, this year, it looks like I’m spoilt for choice.
