The Only Way Is Essex star Amy Childs exclusively revealed with OK! that she’s expecting twins with her boyfriend Billy Delbosq – something which came as a shock to the pair.
While Amy, 32, had come off contraception earlier this year, the reality TV star didn’t expect to conceive so quickly as she discovered she was pregnant just two months later. Making the surprise even bigger, she later found out she’s carrying twins.
Now, in her exclusive column for OK!, Amy is charting her pregnancy, and how she feels like she’s “going back to square one” despite having had two babies before.
This week, Amy opens up about her hopes of having a natural birth, the prospect of having a 3D scan, and returning to TOWIE filming while pregnant…
We’re already planning next year’s Christmas!
Next Christmas is going to be so full on.
We’re already planning things for next year. Me and Bill were sitting there saying, ‘What are we doing next year? Are we having people come round to us? Shall we just do it as us?’. But I don’t know, it’s going to be tough with four kids. The twins will be around 10 months old by then.
I’ve just had my 24 week scan
When you get to 24 weeks, it starts getting really serious, especially as I’m high risk with twins. I mentioned to them about my birth plan and if we can start thinking about it, but at around 30 weeks they’ll start giving me a rough idea of what I can do.
They did all the measurements while I was there, and the girl’s measuring a bit bigger – which is quite normal. With twins it's usually the case that one’s a bit bigger than the other, but everything’s fine. They measured their heads, their arms, everything. It’s just a waiting game now!
I really want a natural labour
If I can give birth naturally, then it would be perfect. I’ve had two natural births so I can do it, and the doctor who saw me yesterday said that having done that means there’s no reason why I can’t do it again.
I’m just going to see as it depends on the twins on the day. They might not be playing ball. Just yesterday the boy was breached when they scanned me, so they’d give me a C-section straight away if that was the case on the day. But after 10 minutes, he moved back around.
I think it’s all about what works for you. You can listen to people’s other stories, but I think it’s best to do whatever works best for you. With Polly and Richie, I didn’t have particularly bad labours. I was in labour a lot longer with Polly, but with Rich he was out in half an hour. My waters broke around 12:30 am, but I went to the hospital and they sent me home and said he’s not coming yet. Then, as soon as I got home my contractions started so I went back and he was born 30 minutes later.
It’s all down the babies at the end of the day. If I can do it naturally and it's safe for them, then perfect. If not, I’ll have a C-section.
The twins are so active I’m struggling to sleep
Last night, I can honestly say that I only had a couple of hours of sleep. I kept waking up, I probably weed about five times in the night. The babies are getting to be hard work – the movements, the pressure, everything is getting tough now.
It’s only been in the past couple of weeks that I feel like I’ve just got so big. Polly went back to school today and the other mums were like ‘Oh my god, you’re so big now!’.
Carrying twins compared to carrying Polly and Rich, I feel completely different. I feel a lot heavier.
I’m so big that Billy thinks I’m struggling to walk, but I’m not that bad! There’s just so much pressure on my belly at the minute. It looks especially big at night time when I'm lying in bed.
We’re unsure if to get a 3D scan or not
Me and Billy discussed a 3D scan last week, and we’re not sure if we’re going to get one because we’re not sure if we have the time! Someone on Instagram messaged me to ask me this and we should get one really. I did with Polly, but not with Rich. I’ve obviously kept Polly’s and it’s absolutely beautiful.
While we’re unsure about having a 3D scan, I am doing a pregnancy shoot next week. It’ll be such a lovely keepsake. It’s literally just for me and Bill. Polly and Rich will be in a few of them. I’m probably not going to be pregnant again, so I may as well make the most of it.
I’m starting TOWIE filming again soon
We start filming for the new series in two or three weeks time. I think we’ll be doing Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and I’ll be around 27 weeks then – so it’ll be tough for me. I’m looking forward to it though, I’m excited to be back filming because I love it. I really do. TOWIE’s a massive part of my life and Bill will be on it as a full time cast member, which they want him to be.
There’s a few talks here and there about filming the run-up to my birth, but I’m not sure yet. I don’t want to commit to anything that might not be possible, but that’s all I can probably say for the minute…
Come back next week to hear more about Amy's twin pregnancy.
