Law student gives birth during bar exam, finishes test in hospital and passes

A pregnant law student who was sitting her bar exam when she went into labour, had the baby and finished the test in hospital.

And now, mum Brianna Hill, from Illinois, has revealed she has passed the exams and is officially a lawyer.

Brianna just graduated from The Loyola University Chicago School of Law after finishing the test in a private room the day after giving birth.

The test was supposed to take place in the summer but due to the pandemic was postponed to October, which was close to Brianna’s due date.

At 38 weeks pregnant, Brianna went into labour while doing the online test, something she hesitated walking away from as cameras had to be on at all times to prevent cheating.

But realising that the baby was on the way, Brianna decided to take a break and contact the nurses and her partner.

After she gave birth, Brianna had a haemorrhage and became anaemic. But still, after sleeping for just a few hours the next day, Brianna was ready to take the rest of the exam.

Despite the contractions, and the stress of it all, Brianna managed to pass with flying colours.

Brianna shared her delight on Facebook, saying she wanted to prove that mums could do both.

‘I took part of the exam sitting on towels because my water had broken and the other part sitting on an ice pack because I had given birth the night before.

‘I was told to medically withdraw after the first day because there would not be a way for me to finish in the hospital.

‘I haemorrhaged after birth and took the second day of the test while anemic. I only slept for 1.5 hours before the second day of the test because my sweet baby was SO grunty.’

Brianna added: ‘I breastfed my baby in between sessions. I did all of this because I did not see any other option to accomplish both my goals — become a lawyer and a mum.’

‘I am SO happy I get to be a lawyer officially and am so thankful that I got here. Now, I am going to go celebrate with my cute little family.’

The mum said she got through the whole thing due to the encouragement of her support system.

Congrats to the new mum and lawyer.
