My fiancé's ex is always sniffing around his family — I'm sick and tired of it

DEAR DEIDRE: MY boyfriend and I are engaged to be married next year, but I’m getting sick and tired of his ex always sniffing around his family.

We have been together for two years and when we first got together the woman was still living with his sister.

She still went around to my boyfriend’s parents for Sunday roasts until the pandemic arrived and she still speaks to them regularly.

Before Christmas I found out my boyfriend helped her with a job application, so I’ve asked him to stop contact with her and he agreed.

But her contact with the rest of her family continues.

I am 26 and my boyfriend is 27. I get on well with his family too but am starting to feel she is using their good nature to stay hovering over us.

I feel the current situation is disrespectful of my feelings as well as my boyfriend’s choice to end their relationship.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your boyfriend’s ex hasn’t moved on as yet, but she will.

Now your boyfriend has stopped contact with her, both she and his family will get the message that they need to put some distance between them.

Be patient – you are the one who will be getting married to his family and you are the one he has chosen to be with.

As you involve them in your wedding and future plans, very naturally his family will soon drift apart from his ex.
