Since early 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have been based in Los Angeles, opting to leave behind the UK for a new life with their son Archie. The couple formally stepped down from their senior roles as royal family members on March 31 and had been living in an LA mansion for several months before finally settling into their family home in Santa Baraba earlier this month.
However, Prince Harry recently revealed that he does intend to go back to the UK sooner, rather than later. After the COVID-19 pandemic led to a global shutdown earlier this year, international travel was suspended by many national governments. The royal couple was forced to remain in LA for the entirety of the summer, although some countries are now loosening travel restrictions.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moved to America after stepping down from formal roles in the royal family
At the beginning of 2020, there was a lot of speculation about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s roles in the royal family, and what the future held. The two had been vocal about some of the problems they had been facing since being wed, particularly the invasive nature of the British tabloids and the negative effects it was having on their lifestyle.
In a shocking turn of events, the couple announced that they would be stepping down from their senior roles as working members of the royal family in Jan. and formalized the decision on March 31. Shortly after, they temporarily moved to Canada, and then relocated to LA as the world went into lockdown.
Prince Harry and Meghan had had been renting Tyler Perry’s mansion in LA to accommodate themselves but were still dealing with a ton of unwanted attention from the paparazzi. The couple decided to settle down for good after purchasing a home in Santa Barbara in the summer of 2020.
Prince Harry will be returning to the UK when possible
Prince Harry had intended to return to the UK months ago, but due to the pandemic, he and Meghan had not been able to leave the United States. However, during a Zoom call to celebrate the Rugby League’s 125 birthday, he revealed that he does have plans of returning before October 2021.
On a video call that he shared with team members, coaches, and staff, Prince Harry was quoted saying: “We’ve got a whole Rugby League World Cup coming next year. I definitely plan on coming back. I would have been back already had it not been for COVID.”
The Rugby World Cup is set to take place between October 23 and November 27 of next year, so it’s safe to presume that he intends to head back to the UK before then. Travel restrictions remain in place for those who desire to fly between America and the UK; currently, the British government is advising against any non-essential travel between the nations.
