Review: NYX Professional Makeup Bare With Me Serum Concealer

It might be the one product you’d never leave the house without applying, but concealer isn’t exactly the world’s most thrilling makeup item. However that great arbiter of modern taste – TikTok of course – has now deemed it worthy of its very own viral moment, so naturally we needed to know more.

The product in question is NYX Professional Makeup Bare With Me Serum Concealer, priced at a very modest £11 here and available in 13 shades. The buzz began with a video from TikTok creator @_rakhstarbeauty, comparing it to MAC’s iconic Pro Longwear Concealer, which has since hit nearly 430k views and over 47k likes.

“I love that this doesn’t look thick and creamy like a lot of full-coverage hydrating concealers can look,” she says of the finished result. “It looks very natural, you don’t need a lot, it blends in really easily, and I think it looks really nice.”

The #barewithmeconcealer hashtag duly bloomed and has gone on to tot up over 3.5m views. That total is sure to grow further now what NYX Professional Makeup calls “the world’s first viral concealer” has launched here on the UK high street.

So does it live up the hype in real life? Beauty director Lynne Hyland goes filter free to find out.

Lynne says

My under-eyes are not my favourite area. They’re dreary patches of purple in a generally pale and peaky complexion, and I’ve spent decades slathering concealer onto them.

Finding the right one is a challenge. Too sheer, and those dark rings peek through. Too full coverage and my under-eyes start to crack like a Victorian wall in need of replastering.

The texture of Bare With Me is, as the words “serum concealer” suggest, fairly fluid. Normally lightweight feel equals weedy coverage, but this one had me at first swipe. Honestly, I’ve NEVER found a product that conceals so much with such a super-fine texture. Is it concealer or actual witchcraft in a tube?

One quick dab with a fingertip made my eyes look brighter and fresher, and a second dab erased any lingering darkness. It was also a dream to blend, with absolutely no need for a brush. The whole thing took me no more than a minute.

What impressed me just as much was the lack of creasing. I was expecting trouble as soon as I smiled but no. Normally if I love how a product looks under my eyes, I’m going back and forth with a fingertip, wiping away wave after wave of rogue cover-up. This? I just did one quick final blend, and that was it. Job done.

Speaking as somebody with a dry, sensitive complexion, I’m delighted to confirm it delivers on the skincare elements of the “serum” name too. It keeps my under-eyes hydrated, and also contains a trio of calming ingredients: green tea, tremella mushroom and cica.

TikTok doesn’t always get it right but this time it’s bang on the money. I’m giving Bare With Me a 5 out of 5, but if I could give it an extra star I would.
