It’s no secret that plenty of celebs turn to hair extensions to get thick, luscious lengths, but not many share the exact details of the kind of faux hair they turn to to cheat a more voluminous style. Georgia Toffolo, however, has kindly shared the secret to her incredible lengths.
The Made in Chelsea star and I’m A Celeb winner took to Instagram to give followers a glimpse at her freshly styled tresses, which feature new “hybrid extensions”. It’s clear from the short video posted to her Stories that her blonde hair has been given a lengthening and thickening boost – and it would be impossible to tell the hair wasn’t all her own if she hadn’t given further details in a caption.
“Natural creamy blonde with hybrid extensions (few tapes and few bonds),” Toff wrote, moving her hair around to show just how invisible the extensions are.
So what are hybrid hair extensions?
“Essentially, it’s a way of fitting hair extensions tailored to the client’s specific hair type,” explains Georgina Murray, stylist at London’s award-winningThe Extensionist salon.
“It’s also called a ‘combination method’: a mixture of different types of hair extensions blended together to give a natural, fuller effect. We often use this method when someone doesn’t necessarily want a full head of bonds or tapes, but would prefer to boost the look of their natural hair.
“If a client comes in with fine hair, we’ll sometimes apply small bonds around the front and sides of the hair, and then apply tapes to the back sections where the hair tends to be thicker and can hide larger extensions better. This combination is also great for anyone who tells us they tie their hair up a lot.
“The type of hair extension we use is always decided on an individual basis after we have a consultation with the client. We work to suit their lifestyle and their hair type, so it’s always very tailored.”
How long do they last in hair?
“Tapes last around eight weeks before they need refitting, while bonds can last up to three months. Microrings can last around 10-12 weeks. If you’ve got a combination of these different types, 9-10 weeks for maintenance is about right,” says Georgina.
How much do they cost?
Price is dependent on the amount of hair needed (ie half a head or a full head), and the type of extension you pick. Prices start from around £400, with maintenance appointments costing from £220. See full price list for The Extensionisthere.
