Why Frogmore Cottage Is 'So Much Better' Than Kensington Palace for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

We now know why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new home, Frogmore Cottage, is “so much better” for them. Keep reading to learn what a source close to the couple had to say about their newly renovated home.

Why Frogmore Cottage is ‘so much better’ than Kensington Palace for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

A source revealed to People magazine why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new home, Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, about 25 miles from their former Kensington Palace home (they lived in Nottingham Cottage), is better for them.

“Their home is so cute and warm,” a source told People. “The energy of the space is so much better [than Kensington Palace]. It’s a total fresh start,” they added.

Why moving ‘is a really healthy thing to do’ for the couple

Previously, a “longtime friend” told People magazine that living at Kensington Palace isn’t the right fit for all members of the royal family. They added that getting away from the palace can be healthy.

Moving to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor “is a really healthy thing to do,” the longtime friend told People.

“I presume it must be nice to get out and away. Without neighbors who are all either family or staff [at Kensington Palace], they will now have their own thing,” they said.

Details on the renovations at Frogmore Cottage

Previously, Frogmore Cottage was broken up into 20 apartments for royal staff but has since been converted to five bedrooms. Prince Harry and Markle made extensive renovations to the home before moving in shortly before the birth of their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Renovations are said to have cost $2.5 to $3.8 million. A multi-million dollar renovation got the couple a yoga studio, an “elaborate Gone With the Wind-style double staircase,” new fireplaces in “principal rooms,” a dining area in the kitchen, alcove bookcases, and vanities, according to the Daily Mail.

Security has also been improved to meet “Fort Knox” levels. Part of the renovation also included soundproofing the entire home because of it’s close proximity to Heathrow Airport.

Reportedly the Sovereign Grant paid for the building work at Frogmore Cottage while Prince Harry and Markle paid out of pocket for the furniture, fixtures, appliances, and soundproofing.

Although Markle is a known foodie, it’s Prince Harry with plans to “do some entertaining,” a friend of his told People. “He likes having his friends around him.”

As for baby Archie, he came home from the hospital to a new nursery outfitted with sustainable, eco-friendly finds.

How did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle come to own Frogmore Cottage?

Queen Elizabeth II gifted Frogmore Cottage to Prince Harry and Markle. Some gift, eh? Emily Andrews, the royal correspondent for The Sun, tweeted about the home being a gift from Harry’s grandmother.

“Instead the Queen has given them Frogmore Cottage in Windsor,” she tweeted. “It’s within the private Home Park and faces the beautiful grounds of Frogmore House. It’s where they had their private evening wedding party & where their gorgeous engagement pictures were shot.”

As Andrews mentioned in her tweet Frogmore Cottage is a meaningful place for the couple with special memories. Undoubtedly many more special memories will be made there as they settle in as new parents.
