Wife baffled by ‘red flag’ Valentine’s Day gift which some call ‘divorce-worthy’

A bloke’s attempt at a big romantic gesture for his wife went drastically wrong this Valentine’s Day.

In an attempt to show his partner his love and devotion, the man purchased a house for her – without consulting her first.

The wife shared her dilemma on Reddit for advice on wether she was being “ungrateful” and quickly divided opinions.

She explained that she was given the keys to the house alongside a picture of what he called “their dream house” on Valentine’s Day.

However, she was confused as they’d never discussed buying a place or even looked at homes together.

What would you do in this situation? Be angry or thrilled? Tell us in the comments…

The woman wrote: “I’ve never seen this house; we’ve never looked at houses together or talked about what we would like in a future house and we had previously agreed to continue living where we live for at least another three years, so I’m not sure how he figured out what ‘our’ dream house would look like.

“I don’t know if I’m being ungrateful by being disappointed since I haven’t seen it in person yet, but it does look nice from the pictures/ videos he’s shown me.”

She continued: "I was really looking forward to searching for our first house together since I’ve never bought a property before."

The wife asked Reddit users for their opinion and a heated discussion broke out, reports Yahoo Lifestyle.

"Sounds like he bought himself a house," one person noted.

"I would be beyond pissed," they continued. "It’s not ‘our’ dream house if only one person was involved in the purchase from start to finish.

"He did not take into consideration what you might want in a house at all.

“If ur husband feels like he can do something as major as buying a house without your knowledge, what else can he do without you ever knowing about it? This is [a] major red flag for me."

Another said: “This is beyond inappropriate and possibly even divorce-worthy.”

But, others disagreed and said that she was being rude.

One commenter said: “To be honest you sound ungrateful that he did something nice for you which is getting a house for both of you.

“I think you should feel happy that he bought a house for the both of you and that you have a roof [over] your head."

"I'm sure he didn't do it to upset you however that's a huge decision and also one you should be part of as well,” added another.

While another noted: “In my opinion, he seems to truly love you and I'm sure his intentions were not in any way from a bad place.

“I think it's a really sweet gesture however it's a big decision that the [two] of you should have made together but he must have been too excited to do something for you to show you how much he loves you.

"You should have a conversation with him."
