Worrying about coronavirus has given me really severe panic attacks – The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: WORRYING about Covid-19 has given me panic attacks so severe I want to die.

I am a man of 47 who lives alone since my last relationship broke down.

I work in a food-production factory so had to go in.

When it started getting to me I had two weeks off sick but now every day is a losing battle.

These attacks have taken over my life.

DEIDRE SAYS: Yes, panic attacks are horrible. They happen when our fight-or-flight response goes into overdrive.

They will pass more quickly if you focus on breathing steadily, letting the feelings wash over you and breathing out a bit longer than you breathe in.

My e-leaflet on Coping With Panic Attacks explains self-help and you can find support through Anxiety UK (anxietyuk.org.uk, 03444 775 774).

Raise any practical worries about your safety at work with management, HR or your union.
