Wow, Everyone Missed [SPOILER] Fully Trying to Poison Daenerys

As you may have noticed, the lovable human snake known as Varys was killed during Sunday’s penultimate episode of Game of Thrones as punishment for crossing Daenerys. But what you might not have noticed thanks to the episode being a lot to take in, is that Varys appears to have fully been trying to poison her. I’ll give you a moment.

Kay, so, basically several eagle-eyed fans realized that the conversation Varys had with some random girl from the kitchen named Martha was a little weird:

Varys: “Nothing?”

Girl: “She won’t eat.”

Varys: “We’ll try again at supper.”

Girl: “I think they’re watching me.”

Varys: “Who?”

Girl: “Her soldiers.”

Varys: “Of course they are. That’s their job. What have I told you, Martha?”

Girl: “The bigger the risk, the bigger reward.”

Varys: “Go on. They’ll be missing you in the kitchen.”

Um, clearly this girl wouldn’t be so stressed if her job was simply delivering food to Dany, and this scene—combined with Varys’ clearly duplicitous behavior—gives off major “HE! WAS! POISONING! HER!” vibes.

ICYMI, Varys totally tried to poison Dany at the beginning of the episode. The callbacks to season 1 are amazing:

Ned: Poison is a woman’s weapon.
Pycelle: Yes. Women, cravens… and eunuchs.

Grand Maester Pycelle then mentioned Lord Varys just seconds later! 🤯#GameofThrones pic.twitter.com/TVbL2uVmdJ

Rewatching and Varys was def trying to poison Dany. She foiled him by not eating #GameofThrones

So…. everyone else got this too right ?? Lord Varys was having Martha the little kitchen girl poison Danys food. She was nervous the guards were watching her, he reassured her by “Greater the risk, greater the reward“ #GamefThrones #GOT #HBO pic.twitter.com/QrigC5t7ON

WOWOWOW @ all of this. And can I just point out that if Varys was attempting to assassinate Daenerys via poisoning her, it would a) be extremely on brand for him, and b) justify her murdering him for treason a lot more.
