  • POSITIONAL SENSE

Ryan Giggs wants Ethan Ampadu to be Mr Versatile in his Wales side, with the 19-year-old able to play in either midfield or defence.

But the former Exeter man’s last appearance impressed Giggs when he lined up in a back three for Leipzig in February’s 1-0 Champions League away victory over Tottenham in the last-16 of Europe’s premier competition.

Giggs added: “I want all the players to be playing regularly, but that sometimes isn’t the case.

“It’s that balance over whether they’re at a top club and surrounded by top players and improving every day but ultimately you need minutes on the pitch. That’s a decision for Ethan. I’ve talked to him a lot about that.

“I think last year was maybe a little bit different as he had injuries. You could see from the game he played against Tottenham in the Champions League he was outstanding.

“Nothing fazes him, he’s a quality player, and he just needs to keep fit now and he will get minutes wherever he is.

“I wanted to try Ethan at centre-half because he does give you a different option with how comfortable he is on the ball. He has played more in midfield which he can do as well.”

  • BLUE IS THE COLOUR

Pundit Robbie Savage has backed Chelsea to finish third in the Premier League this season.

Writing for the Mirror, he said: “Owner Roman Abramovich means business – he's given manager Frank Lampard £230million to spend this summer and Chelsea have brought in serious quality.

“Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr will build on Lampard's excellent first season in charge.

“But he needs a world-class goalkeeper.”

  • HAM-STRUNG

Chelsea and Arsenal have received a transfer boost after West Ham reportedly refused to meet Brentford's £20million valuation of Said Benrahma.

David Moyes have been chasing the Bees attacker all summer as they look to bolster their options going forward.

But according to The Telegraph, the Hammers are unwilling to match Brentford's asking price.

That is despite the Championship side dropping their demand from £30m to £20m and the East Londoners selling Grady Diangana for £18m.

Both Chelsea and Arsenal are tracking the Algerian winger, whose stock rose considerably last season.

  • SUPER FRAN RETURN

Fran Kirby is set for an emotional return to the WSL after being told she may never play football again.

The Chelsea star, 27, has been out of league action since last  November  when she learned she had a rare heart condition.

Pericarditis — an inflammation of the lining around the heart  — left Kirby with severe chest pains and unable to do even basic  tasks.

She was sofa-ridden at her home during the long, crippling months she battled the illness.

The England forward revealed: “There was a period where I was told by the cardiologist that if I didn’t slow down, I could become chronic and never play again. I remember reading about the illness because I had no idea what it was when I was diagnosed.

“I never read any stories where someone had overcome it. But I wanted to show to myself that I could get over this and I had a positive story to give.

“It has been a tough journey but it’s definitely shaped me into who I am now. It made me realise how precious these moments when you play are.

  • BLUE MOON

Chelsea will give Michy Batshuayi a pay hike and then find him a shop window with a loan deal.

The Belgian striker, 26, is to be offered an extension to avoid him walking away for nothing next summer.

No clubs who can afford Batshuayi have shown an interest in this window, so Chelsea hope by giving him a further year he can go out and increase his value.

The terms could see Batshuayi get a £15,000 rise to £100k-a-week — a lot of money for a player down the pecking order under manager Frank Lampard.

However, any club taking him on loan would be asked to pick up the tab and pay most of that salary for a season.

The news has put Crystal Palace, West Brom and Newcastle on alert.

  • GOOD MORNING, CHELSEA FANS,

Blues owner Roman Abramovich reportedly took control in the transfer deal to bring Kai Havertz to Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old joined from Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year deal on Friday in a move believed to be worth in the region of £70million.

And according to the Express, Abramovich took the wheel instead of boss Frank Lampard in conducting business as he pushed to sign Havertz.

They claim that the Russian billionaire and the Blues board were desperate to secure the signing of the German playmaker this summer.

With other potential suitors such as Real Madrid not having the funds to sign Havertz this window due to the coronavirus pandemic, Chelsea wanted to land the player now.

Ethan Ampadu has been urged to stay at Chelsea and learn the art of defending from Thiago Silva.

The Wales teen star, who starred in the 1-0 Nations League victory over Finland on Thursday in his first international game at centre-back, has been tipped by national boss Ryan Giggs to develop under Thiago’s wealth of knowledge and experience.

When asked if Ampadu can learn from Silva, Giggs, whose side face Bulgaria in Cardiff later today, said: “Oh yeah. He’s been a quality centre-half for the last 15 years and you can only learn from someone like that.

“When you see a player like that in training and games, you can only learn from it. Ethan definitely will along with the other talented players at Chelsea.”

Finally, AC Milan ‘are now close’ to agreeing a £2.6million loan move to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko from Chelsea with a £27m option to make the deal permanent.

The 26-year-old impressed in Italy two seasons ago during a year-long loan at the San Siro.

And after he made 23 appearances on loan at Monaco last term, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen to shift the midfielder.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Milan are in the final stages of sealing a deal to sign Bakayoko which gives them the option to buy him for £27m after an initial loan fee.

  • BAKA TO SERIE A

Paolo Maldini has refused to confirm if AC Milan are set to secure the return of Tiemoue Bakayoko.

TalkSport claim Frank Lampard is reportedly keen to call time on the midfielder's career at Chelsea.

And Serie A giants Milan are rumoured to be after £3m loan for the player, with the option of a £30million transfer at the end of next season.

However Calciomercato say Maldini stopped short of confirming if a temporary deal was in place.

Bakayoko signed for the Blues from Monaco for £40million in 2017.

However the former Ligue 1 star failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.

Brazilian Thiago, 35, joined Frank Lampard’s side last month on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.

Teen star Ampadu is back at Stamford Bridge following a season-long loan in Germany with RB Leipzig.

And the Wales teen star, who starred in the 1-0 Nations League victory over Finland on Thursday in his first international game at centre-back, has been tipped by national boss Ryan Giggs to develop under Thiago’s wealth of knowledge and experience.
