Emi Martinez transfer news – odds: Man Utd & Spurs to battle it out as World Cup winner ready to leave Aston Villa | The Sun

REPORTS suggest Emi Martinez is ready to quit Aston Villa this summer, with a transfer race seemingly ready to hot up.

And Ladbrokes believe that fight will come down to either Manchester United or Tottenham securing his services.

The World Cup winner joined Villa in 2020 in a deal worth up to £20million, having starred briefly for Arsenal when Bernd Leno was injured late in the season.

He's gone from strength to strength since, including nailing down the number one spot for Argentina.

That since lead to him being the hero in the penalty shoot out in the Qatar final, and subsequent unusual scenes that followed that game.

He brought that form back to his club, with Villa conceding just FIVE goals in their last ten games at the time of writing – a best in the league during that time with only Manchester City conceding single figures.

Reports in his homeland suggest he's ready to move on this summer and they suggest Tottenham are frontrunners to secure his services.

Ladbrokes odds

  • Man Utd – 3/1
  • Tottenham – 4/1
  • Chelsea – 7/1
  • Bayern Munich – 10/1

But Ladbrokes make United the leaders in the betting market at 3/1, with Spurs just behind at 4/1. Chelsea are 7s and Bayern Munich are the only others in contention at 10/1.

David De Gea could be set to stay at United amid reports he is willing to take a PAY CUT to remain at Old Trafford, though it's also understood his number one status is NOT guaranteed.

While Spurs are in the market for a new keeper with captain Hugo Lloris, 36, suffering a dip in form in recent seasons.

Chelsea's change in management is set to prompt movement in the goalkeeping position, with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy's future in doubt.

It is claimed frontrunner Mauricio Pochettino has identified signing a new goalkeeper as one of the key areas to focus on.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Martinez is reportedly flirting with the idea of a move away from Villa Park, and with clangers becoming a common occurrence for David de Gea these days, a mega money Old Trafford deal could be on the cards for the World Cup winner."
