NEWCASTLE have been warned hotshot Ivan Toney is on a revenge mission on Saturday.
Former Magpies chief scout Graham Carr recommended they sign Toney when he was put up for grabs by Northampton for £250,000.
Toney, then 19, failed to make the grade in the North East but his career rocketed with a move to Peterborough and then to Brentford.
Carr told SunSport: “Ivan’s turning into something of a colossus of a striker. His progress is a great reflection of his strength of character and his strength as a player.
“And I can see him really making life uncomfortable for Newcastle fans and especially their defenders.
“Howe’s defenders had better ready for a bit of rough and tumble because if they’re not at it, then they won’t know what’s hit them.
“The back four will know they’ve been in a game because Ivan’s an aggressive striker and he’ll thrive in the heat of the battle, just like Alan Shearer used to do.”
Newcastle, who will be without manager Eddie Howe in the dugout after he tested positive for Covid-19, may be in a relegation fight, but Carr is hoping fans give Toney, 25, a warm reception.

Carr added: “Ivan must be a nightmare to play against – he leads the line well and he’s good finisher, just what you need when the stakes are so high.
“The fans seem to turn on players who come back to the club but they should remember it wasn’t Ivan Toney’s idea to leave.
“I hope they realise he didn’t choose to quit for better things like lots of others have done in the past.
“He went out on loan all over the place before he was finally deemed surplus to requirements, half-forced out of the club, but he’s proved people wrong.
“It’s a huge game for both sides and it’ll be the ideal opportunity for him to show the Newcastle fans what they’ve been missing.
“In a way, I hope that’ll be the case because I was pleased to have a hand in giving him an opportunity to make it at Newcastle but it’s tough and highly competitive at the top.
“As for this weekend’s game, I wouldn’t say Ivan will have extra motivation to prove himself because he’s already shown he’s a Premier League player so he’ll go there confidence.”
