The Red Devils appointed Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager on a six-month deal.

The German, 63, will then move to a consultancy role at Old Trafford for an additional two years.

United are still planning to make a permanent appointment at the end of the season with Pochettino the frontrunner.

Poch was heavily tipped for the position and was priced at 1/5 shortly after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal.

Reports claim the ex-Spurs manager was 'open' to a return to English football.

But Paris Saint-Germain wanted a whopping £17million to green-light his departure and to have Zinedine Zidane lined up to replace him.

Pochettino remained coy at the weekend in response to being questioned about his future.

Pochettino told CBS Sunday: "We are always focused on the football – our games and our work. It is not us, nor the club, who generate these situations. It does not affect us.

"I am focused on PSG. We are used to rumours arriving. When they do arrive, it is a good sign that there are many of them – it is a sign that we are doing good work.

"We are calm and humble. It is not us creating these rumours."

Rangnick is available at 4/1 to get the role on a permanent basis with Ajax's highly-rated Erik ten Hag at 9/2.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers remains on their radar at 14/1 with Zidane and Italy's Roberto Mancini following behind at 16/1 and 17/1 respectively.
