Man Utd 'tell Diogo Dalot he must return to club after loan with AC Milan eyeing permanent transfer for full-back'

MANCHESTER UNITED are insisting that Diogo Dalot return to the club for pre-season after Euro 2020, according to reports.

The Portuguese star, 22, spent last season on loan at Serie A giants AC Milan.

And Stefano Pioli's side are keen to sign him up for another year.

According to the MEN, however, United want him to return.

They also claim that, at this stage, they have 'no intention' of negotiating with Milan.

The Italians want to sign him on another season-long loan, with an option to buy at the end of the campaign.

Dalot made 34 appearances for Milan last term, including one against Man United at Old Trafford in the Europa League.

He is said to be open to returning to San Siro, but 'loves' United and wouldn't mind coming back.

The Red Devils have been chasing fellow right-back Kieran Trippier this summer.

SunSport revealed earlier this month that the former Spurs player told England team-mates that he fancies a move to Old Trafford.

But the Three Lions regular, 30, reportedly fears that he will be priced out of a move by Atletico Madrid's £34million demands.

Failing to get Trippier could open the door to a return for Dalot.

The right-back has made 35 appearances for United, amid a string of injury problems.

Back in March, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: "The main thing for Diogo was to be fit.

"He never managed to be fit for a long spell when he was here because of injuries and now he’s kept fit all season and been available for them.

He’s our player and I’m looking forward to having him back

"He’s playing at a big club, big expectations, great history of the club.

"It’s been a good year for him. So, of course, I’ve been very pleased with his development this season, he’s our player and I’m looking forward to having him back."

Uncapped Dalot is currently at Euro 2020 with Portugal, having been called up following Joao Cancelo's positive Covid-19 test.
