World Cup hosts Qatar suffer shock defeat to Northern Irish side Linfield in disastrous preparation for 2022 tournament | The Sun

WORLD CUP hosts Qatar have kicked off their tournament preparations in disastrous style.

That’s after suffering a shock defeat to Northern Irish club side Linfield.

The practice match took place in Marbella on Tuesday.

Qatar fielded a strong side, including seven players who started in March’s draw with Slovenia and are likely to feature at the World Cup.

But Irish Premiership champions Linfield were adamant to prove they were no pushovers.

And the Ulster club emerged as 1-0 victors thanks to a strike from ex-Rangers striker Chris McKee.

And next week they will bid to reach the Champions League group stage against Welsh champs The New Saints.

Linfield have former experience against international sides, having beaten Kenya 1-0 in 2002.

They also lost 1-0 to Argentina in 1990, with Diego Maradona’s side the world champs at the time.
