A Place in the Sun: Jonnie clashes with buyer over property

Channel 4 viewers saw A Place in the Sun host Jonnie endeavour to find couple Rob and Lisa their dream property in the Playa Blanca area of Lanzarote this evening. Luckily, the pair managed to find a home to suit their tastes after managing to knock the vendor’s price tag down. However, it wasn’t all plain-sailing after one property saw Rob and Lisa disagree on whether it could be a contender, with the latter saying she was only “30 percent” sure, which led to some tension with herself and Jonnie.

Today’s buyers were searching for a new home on the sunny Spanish Canary Island of Lanzarote.

The pair had been visiting for over 12 years and had finally decided now was the right time to invest in a property.

And Jonnie couldn’t wait to get stuck in, with the duo managing to offer up a generous budget of £280,000.

However, after seeing one property in particular, Jonnie was left let down by Lisa when she disapproved of the property.

After not being sure what she thought of the property, Lisa admitted: “I’m really confused now.

“It’ll come down to, do we want the hassle and the expense for a longer-term investment I think.”

Rob was more positive, commenting: “The finish of this, the build is really good quality, it’s almost a blank canvas in terms of how we could design it.”

Keen to find out whether the pair were interested in the property, Jonnie probed: “Is this a contender?”

“It’s a contender for me,” Rob confirmed, with Lisa looking less sure.

“Lisa? Contender?” leading her to admit it was only a “30 percent” contender.

“That’s a no then? That’s a no?!” Jonnie exclaimed, with Rob replying: “Woah,” as things got slightly tense.

Clarifying why she was unsure on the home, Lisa said: “I don’t like it as much as the earlier one, I don’t think the warmth is there.”

“Okay,” Jonnie said, reminding her: “They’re similarly priced, this property and your firm contender.”

Luckily, the pair decided on their dream property later on with the help of the host.

After being stuck between the choice of two, Jonnie pointed out: “The one thing that separates them is the price.

“One was around £298,000, the other was £265,000 – if you could get the single-storey property close to the other property price would you?”

The pair agreed to try knocking down the price-point on the more expensive property, offering £30,000 under the asking price.

“The owner has come back with a counter-offer of £282,000,” said Jonnie.

“It’s great news they’re moving in our direction but think there’s movement,” Rob said – before trying another offer at £275,000.

The pair managed to agree on an offer of just under £280,000 with the buyer, meaning they were able to move to their dream location of Lanzarote.

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays from 3pm on Channel 4.
