Praise Satan! Season 4 of the hit Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina officially has a premiere date. Fans of the show got a spooky season pick me up when Netflix finally revealed exactly when Greendale’s favorite witches are returning for Part 4. But, not everyone is happy with the release date announcement. In fact, some fans are downright disappointed.
2020 hasn’t been the best year for fans of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. In July, it was announced that Netflix had opted to cancel the show. However, they did promise that Part 4, which the actors had previously filmed, would be premiering sometime in 2020. Naturally, fans were devastated when they heard the news. Particularly since the show technically only got two full seasons. While many fans refer to Part 4 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as season 4, the number of episodes actually filmed is equivalent to about two seasons of primetime TV.
The cast and fans of ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ are devastated the show will end with Part 4
Almost immediately fans of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina began rallying behind the show. They started a petition to save the show that has since been signed by over 200,000 people. And fans aren’t the only ones who are devastated by the show’s cancellation. The cast of the show is also upset that they won’t get to continue telling their stories and that they didn’t get the opportunity to give each other proper goodbyes.
However, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina fans did receive some good news back in August when rumors began that HBO Max could potentially pick up the show after Season 4 and save it from cancelation. Though this rumor was never confirmed, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is the show’s creator, added fuel to the fire in October of 2020, when he began teasing that big news about the show was coming.
‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ Season 4 has an official release date
Aguirre-Sacasa made four Instagram posts teasing “wicked news” before he (and Netflix) announced that Part 4 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will hit Netflix on December 31, 2020. While some fans shared that the news had officially saved 2020, others were not pleased with the announcement. Some felt that since Netflix had already promised to release Season 4 before the end of 2020, releasing it on the very last day of the year barely counted.
Others accused Aguirre-Sacasa of getting Chilling Adventures of Sabrina fans super excited for the possibility of the show’s renewal especially since he posted the resurrection scene in one of his teasers. “Why did you get the fans so hyped for this?” one fan questioned the creator after he announced the release date for Part 4. “We knew it was coming this year. Posting the resurrection scene was cruel tbh.”
Fans on Instagram are disappointed by the news
“Yeah,” another Chilling Adventures of Sabrina fan penned in agreement. “Though I would’ve been disappointed that the ‘wicked news’ was just a date, I wouldn’t have been too surprised. But after posting the resurrection scene I think a lot of people got their hopes *really* high and I think it was mean to string fans along like that. A date for the LAST day of the year we knew the show was coming on already is not big news, especially not to fans hoping for a renewal/pick up. Idk.”
HBO Max may still save the show from being cancelled
We can understand why Chilling Adventures of Sabrina fans are disappointed with having to wait until the very end of the year before they’re able to binge season 4 of the show. But, all hope isn’t lost about the show potentially getting picked up by HBO Max. If the show has been picked up, the announcement can’t be made until after Part 4 has been released on Netflix. We guess fans will have to wait until 2021 to see if Sabrina and her friends get the resurrection they deserve.
