Zeedan Nazir (played by Qasim Akhtar) has been blackmailed and threatened by his father-in-law Hashim Elamin (Vincent Ebrahim) in recent weeks on the ITV soap. With the pressure continuing to mount, the story is leading up to an inferno at Speed Daal after Hashim encourages Zeedan to burn the restaurant to the ground and claim on the insurance. However, will Coronation Street villain Hashim frame Zeedan for the fire to avoid being jailed?
Zeedan returned to the Cobbles earlier this year after breaking up with his partner, and he’s been having a difficult time, to say the least.
Hashim has warned Zeedan the best way of paying him back everything he owes is by burning down Speed Daal where he can claim on the insurance, and he has since instructed him to launder money through the restaurant on his behalf.
In dramatic scenes yet to air, Zeedan is appalled by Hashim’s shocking suggestion of setting fire to the establishment.
However, when evil Hashim suggests burning his grandmother Yasmeen’s (Shelley King) house as a second option, Zeedan feels he has no choice but to contemplate the first idea.
While it has not yet been revealed whether Zeedan agrees to set fire to Speed Daal or if he has a change of heart that makes Hashim take matters into his own criminal hands, the restaurant ends up in flames regardless.
Now, soap bosses have teased there will be a major showdown for Zeedan and Hashim which ends in further disaster.
Zeedan’s sister Alya (Sair Khan) starts feeling overwhelmed with guilt about what she knows as her brother tells her they need to sit tight and wait for the money to end matters for once and for all.
However, the siblings are left seriously concerned when police officers arrive and explain they are investigating whether the blaze could have been arson.
The officers ask to look at the company accounts and Alya starts fearing the worst given her brother’s dodgy dealings in recent months.
Later on, a furious Hashim heads to the house and starts threatening the pair, demanding he gets his money.
But the villain suddenly collapses to his knees clutching his chest, leaving Zeedan and Alya panicked as they fear he’s having a heart attack.
A worried Zeedan knows the right thing to do is call for an ambulance, but will he go through with it?
Later in the week, the siblings make a pact to pin the inferno on Hashim as his fate remains unknown.
Zeedan is set to tell the police how Hashim had been threatening him, but will he confess to starting the fire?
If Hashim recovers from his suspected heart attack, will the conniving resident frame Zeedan for the blaze?
Will Zeedan be put in prison after being found guilty of arson even if he wasn’t responsible for the inferno after all?
The actor who plays Zeedan, Qasim, recently opened up on why his character was reluctant to share why Hashim was on his case.
Qasim said: “The main reason that Zeedan didn’t tell Alya was less that he was worried about her giving him grief, it was more that he wanted to protect her.
“Ultimately he knows that when she found out about it she would want to try and help him and that is exactly what she does.
“And this terrifies him because he wants to protect his sister not have her put in danger trying to help him sort out his mess.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
