Coronation Street cast have to snog teddy bears and sunglasses during Covid

There have been some unique ways to get around the Covid filming restrictions in soap but Coronation Street might take the prize for the most weird – as they have been getting their cast to kiss stuffed pandas and even pairs of sunglasses.

The measures are to make kisses seem realistic on screen – but the teddy bears are the ones on the receiving end, whether they like it or not.

Jamie Kenna, who plays Fiz’s new love interest, told Metro.co.uk: ‘It’s tricky, especially with a new relationship – there’s me snogging a cushion, she’s snogging a panda costume.

‘One of the lowest points of my career is making sounds on my arm to make snogging sounds. All of the crew, everyone, has made it much much easier, they put all of it in place. It will be good to get closer after tests.’

And Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone, agreed that he found it challenging – especially in scenes where romance has to be conveyed or when Tyrone couldn’t physically comfort Alina after her miscarriage.

He said: ‘It’s actually been very very challenging. Doing the story at two metres is very challenging.

‘We shot some tough scenes, where Alina had a miscarriage, Tyrone would be there, sympathising, comforting – we couldn’t do it properly.

‘How do you show chemistry, you can’t even hold hands. I was pretending to kiss a pair a sunglasses.’

Wonder if they steamed up?
