ITV soap Coronation Street is going to be seeing the return of fan-favourite Norris Cole (played by Malcolm Hebden) after a long absence. Norris recently returned to Weatherfield but some are wondering if he is going to leaving the Cobbles soon after revealing his plans to divorce Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) and wed new girlfriend Freda Burgess (Ali Briggs). Here’s everything you need to know about Norris and his future in Weatherfield.
Is Norris Cole leaving Coronation Street?
Norris certainly looks like he’s not planning to stick around on the Cobbles judging by his impending divorce.
However, Norris is not going to be leaving the soap any time soon according to the soap’s producers.
Coronation Street boss Iain Macleod previously quashed any thoughts Norris could be departing, telling Digital Spy: “One hundred percent Norris is not leaving the show.
“We just thought that given the circumstances we find ourselves in, it made sense to put a family in Number 3 but it’s certainly not the end of Norris.”
WHEN WILL NORRIS COLE RETURN TO CORONATION STREET?
On whether Eileen Derbyshire could be back as Emily Bishop, the soap boss explained: “As for Emily, we’re in talks fairly regularly with Eileen but at the moment there’s no plans for her to return but again the door’s certainly not closed there.
“But definitely in Norris’ case, the hope on my part and, I think on his, is that we can bring him back in for good.”
Norris hasn’t been seen on screen since December 2017 after the actor was suffering from poor health.
Speaking about his recovery, Gemma Winter star Dolly-Rose Campbell told the Daily Star: “He looks great. He is looking really healthy. He’s really well.”
While Hebden said of his health and life-saving surgery: “Fortunately I didn’t realise how bad it was. I was dying.”
In the soap, Norris has been away visiting his friend Emily in Edinburgh and has been spending time in the Scottish capital with his new flame Freda.
Norris burst back onto Coronation Street on May 6 as he made a comical return.
Fans were elated by his comeback with many taking to Twitter to celebrate with one person posting: “I have missed Norris #coronationstreet.”
A second added: “Aww Norris is back on coronation street my heart is whole!”
“Nice to see Norris back on #CoronationStreet,” a third added.
His estranged wife Mary was left suspicious after Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) suggested Freda had bumped off Norris when the character was spotted with an urn.
Before things could escalate too much, Norris finally arrived and stepped out of cab – much to Mary’s relief.
Unfortunately, she was left heartbroken after Norris broke the news about wanting a divorce.
Norris and Mary’s bitter divorce battle could be playing out over the next couple of weeks as they bicker.
Coronation Street airs tonight on ITV at 7.30pm & 8.30pm
