Coronation Street star details first-day ‘nerves’ after getting dream role

Coronation Street: Nina tells Roy he ruined Evelyn’s date

Claire Sweeney confessed she was nervous when going to the Coronation Street studios for the first time as she’s always wanted to be on the ITV soap.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other media publications, the actress detailed that once she sent an audition tape to producers, she was called to do a chemistry reading with Alan Halsall as his mum Cassie.

She said: “I wasn’t nervous or anything, then to suddenly turn up at Granda TV, Coronation Street.

“I’m going in to do an audition and walking onto the cobbles, my stomach went (gagging noise).

“I had a flip in my stomach and I suddenly thought, ‘Oh my god you’re on Coronation Street, it’s real.”

Claire confessed the reality didn’t hit her until she arrived on set when she saw a huge photo of Edna Sharples in the building.

Being a huge fan of the long-running soap, she added: “I’ve grown up watching Corrie.

“It’s been part of our household since I was a kid and to suddenly be there and see it, reality struck home.

“I’ve never auditioned (for Coronation Street) and I’ve never been seen for it, I always thought if I was to do another soap, Corrie would be the dream one for me.”
