Coronation Street recently announced that Todd Grimshaw will be returning to the soap, but a new actor will play the part of the staple character.

Todd was previously played by actor Bruno Langley but the part disappeared from the cobbles in 2017 as Todd then fled Weatherfield while on the run.

Bruno, the well-known face behind character Todd, was sacked by Coronation Street bosses after he was accused and later found guilty of sexually assaulting two women in a Manchester nightclub.

The former Coronation Street actor's lawyer spoke out in court following the incident, stating it was "most possibly in relation to the character he was playing."

The Corrie star admitted to two offences of sexual assault at Manchester Magistrates Court, but walked free hours later with a 12 month community order.

He was also handed 40 days of rehabilitation activity as part of the order.

The court heard that the actor lunged at two women – one in her 30s and another in her 20s – while partying in a nightclub in Manchester's Northern Quarter.

The judge revealed that a victim was left "shocked and angry" after his drunken behaviour, but the Corrie star avoided jail.

The 34-year-old actor's defence also cited the fact he was intoxicated at the time.

Langley's solicitor Simon Hancock said: "It was completely out of character. Something happened that night, most possibly in relation to the character he was playing.

"These two offences happened within one evening but are linked to alcohol.

"The result was despicable behaviour."

Now, the part will be played by Welsh actor Gareth Pierce – but who is he and where would you have see him before?

Who is Todd Grimshaw actor Gareth Pierce?

Gareth has appeared in various popular television shows, including Ruth Jones’ Sky One sitcom Stella and he also had a part in radio favourite, The Archers. He also starred in Ordinary Lies and Hinterland for BBC.

Other acting credits to Gareth’s name include a successful UK tour of Henry VI with the Globe.

It looks as though Gareth has been attempting to work in new ways like the rest of us while in lockdown, and shared a snap of himself in a makeshift work space while recording The Archers from his home.

“And to have been entrusted with taking Todd forward into some really exciting storylines.

"It's an honour to be part of the dedicated Coronation Street team in such unprecedented times."

When will Todd Grimshaw return?

In scenes which are set to air next week, Mary and Sean open a letter intended for Eileen, who is currently in Thailand.

The letter turns out to be from Todd and he’s asking for money. Mary and Sean then embark on a manhunt to try and track him down.

However, why Todd needs money, where he’s hiding and why he doesn’t want to be found will also be plot twists which will unfold, as the letter create big amounts of intrigue and mystery on the soap.
