Reports that a popular character will die in a grim twist this autumn have sent Coronation Street fans into a frenzy, with many outraged that Kate Connor (Faye Brookes) would be killed off so soon after her on screen bride Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia).
However, Metro.co.uk can confirm that there is no truth to the report and the door is being left open for Kate to return in the future.
A spokesperson for the soap said to us: ‘We don’t ever discuss future storylines but Kate Connor will not be killed off and the door will be open for her to return.’
Kate’s storyline has yet to be revealed but she is likely to be involved with Carla Connor’s (Alison King) ongoing psychosis storyline. A report stated that bosses planned to sent the character out in a coffin to send a message to other stars considering leaving but the rumour has been completely debunked.
Many cast have denied talks of a crisis with a spokesperson recently confirming to us that no crisis talks have taken place at all, despite reports of unrest behind the scenes.
On leaving the show, Faye said: ‘Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it’s time for me to explore new opportunities, I’ve loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I’m off to pastures new. #corrie.’
Her exit comes hand in hands with other big name departures including Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh), Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) and Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill). It is also speculated that Katie McGlynn will leave her role as Sinead Tinker at the end of her current storyline although this remains unconfirmed.
Viewers can expect Kate’s departure to air over the coming months into the spring.
