Corrie’s Ellie Leach shares Brooke Vincents vital advice that landed ITV role

Coronation Street’s Ellie Leach has shared the essential advice that she received from her cousin Brooke Vincent that helped her land her ITV role.

The 22-year-old soap star has become a firm favourite on the Cobbles ever since she joined the show as moody youngster Faye Windass back in 2010 when she was just nine years old.

But she’s not the only member of the family to land a role on the long-running programme after her older cousin Brooke Vincent took on the role of Sophie Webster back in 2004.

Now, in an exclusive interview with Daily Star and other publications, Ellie has looked back on the impressive advice her co-star cousin offered her before her big audition with telly bosses.

She recalled: “So my mum was like, ‘You’ve got an acting audition with Corrie on Monday’ but I was only nine so I didn’t really watch it very much.

“But I knew Brooke was on it and that she was on TV and she was always like ‘Be yourself and everything else will follow’.

“So I went for the audition and I got down to the final five and I literally walked in and there were four other girls who were all in their first year of high school.”

At the time the actress was convinced that she wouldn’t get the role because she looked so different to them being in her last year of primary school.

Ellie went on: “They had a shirt, tie, skirt, blazer, hair straightened, tall, and I was tiny, I had a little school cardigan on with my hair in pigtails and I looked around and I was like, ‘Mum, I'm nothing like these girls, I'm not gonna get this part’.

“They all looked similar and I looked like the odd one out, I'm guessing now it works in my favour, and then I was at my friend’s birthday sleepover and my friend’s mum was like ‘Your Mum’s on the phone, you’ve got the job’.”

During the first few months on the show, her supportive cousin Brooke continued to guide her through life on the soap and was always on hand to offer some much-needed advice.

The actress went on: “I know when I first started, Brooke – my cousin – she was like, ‘Just be yourself like everyone will love you’ and I think that’s just what I’ve done.

“She wasn’t that much older than be to be honest but she did look after me and even though I didn’t work with her at the star, I felt so much more comfortable knowing she was around.

“I didn’t have to see her all the time but knowing that she was in the building and knowing that If I ever needed anything that I could go to her, it was just so comforting to know she’s there.”

It’s clear to see the brunette beauty has come on leaps and bounds since her first scene on the Cobbles.

Throughout her 12 years on the soap, she has tackled several challenging storylines such as teenage pregnancy, being a victim and perpetrator of bullying and being diagnosed with premature menopause.

But Faye will be waving goodbye to the cobbled streets of Weatherfield later this month with the actress confessing it’s “really crazy” to think she will no longer be a part of the ITV cast.

When asked what the key was to staying on the show for so long, she reiterated her cousin’s wise words.

“I know when I first started, Brooke, my cousin, she was like just be yourself, everyone will love you, and I think that’s just what I've done I've just been myself and I think that’s why I’ve been here for so long.

“I feel like I've been myself but I’ve also made this part of me and that will never go away, Corrie will always be a part of me and Faye Windass will always be a part of me.”
