Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has already had a pop at Nicola Adams, the show’s first-ever contestant to be teaming up with a partner of the same sex.
While the boxer’s addition to the Strictly line-up is undeniably a monumental moment for the BBC’s ballroom contest, Craig doesn’t have high hopes for the athlete.
‘I think Nicola Adams will be punching above her weight, darling,’ he smirked while speaking to Mecca Bingo Online.
‘But I am looking forward to seeing a same-sex couple. That’s going to be call.’
The term ‘punching above weight’ typically refers to someone’s looks, but the judge was just slating her dance moves before actually seeing them.
However, the 55-year-old does hold higher hopes for The Wanted’s Max George who has professional dance training.
‘Oh yeah, he’s going to be great,’ he added.
Nicola’s first dance will mark the first time a same-sex couple has competed on Strictly Come Dancing after years of calls from fans to get with the times.
The long overdue moment follows Ian ‘H’ Watkins of Steps fame, who skated with professional Matt Evers in Dancing on Ice earlier this year.
While this year’s bunch of Strictly celebs are waiting to learn who they’ll be waltzing through the winter months with, Katya Jones is said to be keen to dance with Nicola.
‘She’s a huge believer in girl power and thinks they’d make a great team and be a hit with the viewers at home,’ an insider told The Sun.
‘She sees it as a chance to make history but also to redeem herself on the show after her scandal two years ago.’
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One this autumn.
