Emmerdale’s Lucy Pargeter has revealed this year’s Christmas special is a ‘beautiful’ way for Chas Dingle and Paddy Kirk to end 2020.
Spoilers for the upcoming festive episodes have already teased that Paddy (played by Dominic Brunt) will attempt to throw his partner a surprise wedding, which, in true soap fashion, will be riddled with catastrophes.
Speaking about the scenes on today’s episode of Lorraine, Lucy shared: ‘It’s a massive honour. I’ve been blessed with so many Christmas storylines and when I heard about the wedding it was great.
‘Not only is it a beautiful kind of idea for the couple to go through after the last two years they’ve had with losing the baby and then having this baby in lockdown and the pub and everything.’
Lucy continued: ‘It’s a beautiful way to end the year and their past couple of years, which have been not great.’
Although Lucy has hinted that Chas and Paddy will get their happily-ever-after, co-star Mark Charnock wasn’t so positive.
‘I don’t know what Paddy was thinking really,’ Mark told This Morning’s Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford earlier this month, hinting that it doesn’t go swimmingly.
‘Why Paddy asked Marlon to help seems very reckless and sure enough it leads to confusion, complication, frustration, arguments, tears, and disaster.’
When asked how Chas will react to the secret wedding and where the complications will arise, Mark responded: ‘Chas hates surprises, she hates them. that’s one problem.
‘The other problem is the technical aspect of it. Where are they going to do it? If they’re going to do it in the village, how are they going to keep it a secret from her?
‘You’ve got to get everyone else involved, who do you tell?’
However it ends, we can’t wait to tune in.
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
