Emmerdale star on finally getting a massive fight scene between Cain and Al

Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) have been circling each other for months in Emmerdale and we’ve been sat on the edge of our seats, waiting for the moment where they end up at each other’s throats.

Next week, that moment airs.

The catalyst for the huge showdown between Cain and Al is yes, you guessed it, Chas’ (Lucy Pargeter) affair.

After finding Chas’ burner phone – the device she’s been using to communicate with Al – Cain checks it out and finds messages that absolutely prove she’s been having an affair.

Calling the number, Cain listens to Al on the other end and moments later, Al is confronted by Cain with a shotgun in his hand.

How the showdown will end is something we can’t tell you just yet but here, Jeff Hordley talks us through filming those scenes:

‘It was great. Michael’s such a brilliant actor, great professional. We have good fun together but the choreography for the fight scene was quite rigorous and quite exhausting, but it was really well done. We had Renny Krupinski choreograph the fight for us and Michael and I put ideas in as well, and Vicky the director, we all collaborated together.

‘We wanted it to be a little bit messy. I’ve not seen it and I hope that it will be. It was quite a little workout, shall we say, for the afternoon filming.’

He added: ‘He tells Al, “don’t turn your back on me, otherwise I’m going to use this”. And Al turns round and looks at the gun as if to go, “come on”. Then Cain concedes and goes, “this? This was just to get your attention” and he puts the gun down and rests the gun on a hay bale while the two of them talk it out for the next scene while taking their jackets off and getting ready to fight.

‘We’ve been waiting for this moment and sadly because of Covid we’ve had a lot of words and standing across rooms at two metres over the last few years going, “I’m going to get you,” “No, I’m going to get you”.

‘It was nice to finally, for the characters and for Michael and I, to do a fight scene and get physical, which was fun to do.’
