Meena Jutla’s (Paige Sandhu) downfall could well and truly have been set in motion in Emmerdale, after Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) began looking into her sister’s past.
The investigation was instigated in the wake of Meena’s pregnancy bombshell. Doubting her sibling’s honesty, Manpreet started to dig deep, and ultimately made a shocking discovery.
Carol, Nadine Butler’s sister, claimed Meena murdered Nadine, a revelation which left Manpreet floored, and upcoming scenes will see her suspicions grow, leading to a potentially deadly showdown.
‘I think that Manpreet has been given a bit of a ticking time bomb, and she needs to find out [more]!,’ actress Rebecca Sarker told Metro.co.uk. ‘She’s got to play the game, as well. I think it’s quite nice because with Manpreet there’s a lot of looks, there’s a lot of looks that the viewer will see that Meena doesn’t see.
‘So Manpreet will be saying one thing to Meena’s face, but then there’ll be a Manpreet will be saying one thing to Meena’s face, but then there’ll be a very different mask. Manpreet’s mask will drop for the viewer. And as Meena turns away, she’s very smug: “I’ve nailed that with my sister. Idiot.” The viewers will then see that Manpreet’s not quite buying it.’
Manpreet will stop at nothing to find out what her sister is truly capable of, but the question is: will she pay with her life?
Meena, upon realising she’s getting too close to the truth, sets out to silence her with a bottle in upcoming scenes, but will she be able to follow through?
‘I always feel like Meena would murder anyone. She would do anything bad to anyone, but the only person she would think twice about doing it to would be Manpreet,’ explained star Paige Sandhu.
‘So, when Manpreet starts to do these things, Meena can’t just go and off her sister because she does have some sort of feeling for her. So she has to choose a different tactic and it’s stressful for her.’
Rebecca, however, reckons that while Manpreet certainly serves more of a purpose to Meena alive rather than dead, she warned that no-one is safe!
‘I don’t think anyone’s safe where Meena’s concerned,’ added the soap star. ‘I think Manpreet is more beneficial to Meena alive than dead, because she can always turn back to her sister and have a little meddle with her and mess up her life, because that’s what she likes to do.
‘She’s cold, she’s callous, she seeks the admiration of others. She does that by manipulating people. So Manpreet, she’s more fun alive than dead. She can play with her more, she can mess her about. “There’s nobody else around to do it with. Yeah, I might as well mess my sister’s life up. It’s fun!’
