Gogglebox star Nikki Tapper's mum was diagnosed with cancer for a third time

Googlebox star Nikki Tapper has spoken about her mum Marilyn’s health struggles, revealing she was diagnosed with cancer for a third time last year.

Marilyn, who is 72, was first diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 54 and previously had a double mastectomy.

Nikki said had she felt ‘helpless’ and ‘angry’ about her mum’s diagnosis, and spoke about the family’s experiences of helping her to get treatment during lockdown.

It has been an 18 year struggle for the Tapper family, with Nikki herself being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011.

Speaking to The Sun, Nikki said: ‘I was very angry when [mum] first got diagnosed again… I feel like I am waiting for the next time I get it, which isn’t a good way to think.’

Nikki added: ‘I went with her for the first lot of chemotherapy and then we went into lockdown. She has been lucky as some people were unable to get treatment at all.’

The Gogglebox star also spoke about her own diagnosis in 2011, saying that her mum helped her a great deal before she got the all clear in 2012.

Nikki said: ‘[When] I got diagnosed with breast cancer, then I realised what an ordeal it was that my mother went through, it hit me. My mum was just amazing – she got me through the whole thing.’

Nikki also revealed the good news that Marilyn was given the all clear after six months of chemotherapy.

‘Hopefully now we can finally say goodbye to breast cancer, it’s been a horrible year but onwards and upwards,’ she said.

The Tapper family were one of original cast members of Gogglebox, first appearing on the show back in 2013.

Mum Nikki, dad Jonathan and kids Amy and Josh appeared on the Channel 4 show for 11 series, until leaving the series in 2018.

The family also recently suffered with coronavirus, with dad Jonathan left ‘fighting for his life’ after contracting Covid-19 and being unable to move at one point.

All of the family displayed symptoms. Thankfully though, they recently announced they were on the mend during an appearance on Good Morning Britain.

Gogglebox airs Friday nights at 9pm on Channel 4.
