His Dark Materials cast: Who is in season 2 of BBC drama?

HIS DARK MATERIALS returns to BBC One tonight (Sunday November 15, 2020) for the next episode of series two's dark magic, set across multiple worlds.

But as the popular fantasy show promises to keep fans spellbound what time does Series Two start?

Who is in His Dark Materials cast?

TheBBC/HBO TV adaptation of His Dark Materials, a book trilogy written by Philip Pullman, will see most of the original cast return for the second series.

Dafne Keen

The youngster plays Lyra Belacqua, the heroine in His Dark Materials and was raised at the fictional Jordan College.

14-year-old Kean also starred in 2017 film Logan , for which she received an MTV Movie and TV award as part of the 'Best Duo' with Hugh Jackman.

Her mother and father are British actor Will Kean and theatre director María Fernández Ache.

Amir Wilson

Amir Wilson plays Will Parry, a secondary school student from Oxford, whose father disappeared 13 years ago.

Wilson starred in The Letter for The King and the film adaptation of The Secret Garden.

Anne-Marie Duff

Anne Marie Duff plays Ma Costa, a Gyptian woman who previously nursed Lyra.

Duff, a Laurence Olivier Award nominee, made appearances in Trial & Retribution, Amongst Women and Aristocrats in the late 1990s. 

Terence Stamp

Terence Stamp plays Giacomo Paradisi the bearer of the subtle knife who lives in the Tower of the Angels in Cittàgazze.

The award-winning actor from the Superman franchise is known as one of Britain's most steadfast actors and was referred to as the “master of the brooding silence" by The Guardian.

Kit Connor

Kit Connor is set to voice Lyra Belacqua’s unsettled daemon Pantalaimon in the British fantasy adventure series.

Connor is best known for starring as a young Elton John in the film biopic, Rocketman.

Lin-Manuel Miranda

Lin plays Texan aeronaut and adventurer, Lee Scoresby.

Miranda took the world by storm after writing and appearing in the hit musical Hamilton.

James McAvoy

James McAvoy plays scholar and explorer Lord Asriel Belacqua, the father to main protagonist Lyra.

The Scottish actor has become a global star thanks to his roles in films such as the X-Men franchise, Deadpool 2, Filth, It Chapter 2 and Atonement, among dozens more.

Ruth Wilson

Ruth Wilson plays Marisa Coulter, she is Lyra's mother as well as an explorer and authoritative figure at the Magisterium.

She is know for playing Alison Lockhart in The Affair as well as Alice Morgan in the critically-acclaimed Luther.

In 2014 Wilson won a Golden Globe Award for 'Best Actress in a Supporting Role' in The Affair in 2014.

What time is His Dark Materials on BBC One?

Viewers can catch up with the first episode of His Dark Materials season two, which aired Sunday 8th November, 8pm on BBC One.

The episode is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer after broadcast.

Episodes will then broadcast weekly in the same slot, every Sunday at 8pm

In the US, fans will only be able to watch episodes of season two on HBO and streaming service HBO Max from Monday 16th November at 9pm (ET).

How many episodes are there in season two?

While season one was eight episodes long, following the loss of a standalone Asriel episode, season two has been confirmed to have only seven episodes.

This should cover all the events depicted in The Subtle Knife and possibly beyond.

Season three is thought to have a higher amount of episodes to adapt the third book (The Amber Spyglass) in Pullman's original trilogy.
