Home and Away’s Xavier star now – left for dead in horror smash to co-star dad

Home and Away fans will remember David Jones-Roberts best for his role as Xavier Austin in the Channel 5 soap, a role he held from 2008 until 2013.

Involved in storylines including acting as a carer for his family and his romance with Ruby Bukcto, before sparks began flying between him and Sasha Bezmel.

But where is actor David now? From a motorcycle accident that left him nearly dead and battling brutal injuries to his secret auditions for rival Home and Away roles, he’s certainly been busy since leaving the show.

We take a look into the star’s life, including his co-star dad and famous mum.

Famous parents

David isn’t the only actor in his family, as both his parents are also in the same profession. His dad Danny Roberts has even appeared alongside his son in Home and Away.

Danny appeared as Alisa Stewart’s younger brother Tony O’Rourke back in 1997, before taking on the role of Dennis Harling from 2011 to 2012. Finally, he appeared as Gavin Cooper in 2015.

His longest running character Dennis was involved with redeveloping Summer Bay when he arrived, butting heads with Harvey Ryan and recruiting Indigo as a modelling intern.

Danny has also had roles in everything from Mission Impossible 2 to Sons and Daughters.

He married fellow actor Lindsay Neil when he travelled to the USA, and the pair married, eventually giving birth to David and his sister Alania.

Near death experience

Back in 2018, David was involved in a horror crash when his motorcycle collided with a car in Los Angeles.

The actor had been riding home after filming iZombie when a car allegedly pulled out into the road, with David smashing into the passenger side.

He was told by a firefighter at the scene: “You should be dead.”

The actor admitted to New Idea at the time: “I tried to get around him, but I hit the back passenger’s side of the car and went flying.”

He suffered a gruesome leg injury, ripping his quadriceps tendon in his left leg, and was forced to go through several serious surgeries to regain movement in the limb.

David confessed: “I had no control over being able to bend or lift the leg. I had to have surgery within 48 hours otherwise I might not be able to walk again.”

He concluded: “But I’m alive. It could have been worse.”

Since quitting Summer Bay, David has landed roles in everything from iZombie to Cassidy Way, as well as acting as a producer on Swipe Right – currently in pre-production.

But his career hasn’t always been smooth, as he originally auditioned for several other roles in Home and Away before being cast as Xavier.

He went for the roles of Henry Hunter, Lucas Holden, Drew Curtis and Geoff Campbell but was rejected for all of them – and was eventually out surfing when his agent called to tell him the good news about Xavier.

Along with surfing, he’s a keen gymnast and graduated from the Newtown High School of the Performing Arts.
