AFTER a whirlwind Las Vegas marriage lasting just 55 hours, a public mental health breakdown and a legal battle with her father, it appears Britney Spears has finally found her happily ever after.
The Toxic singer, 39, looked delighted to announce her engagement to fitness trainer beau Sam Asghari, 27, on Instagram, showing off her massive diamond ring to delighted fans.
Sam's manager Brandon Cohen confirmed the joyous news, saying he was "proud to celebrate and confirm the engagement," according to People.
It's been a rocky road for the singer to lasting love – but here we reveal how Britney's romance with "rock" Sam has flourished and how it's had a positive impact on the often-troubled singer…
Isn't she lucky
It's not the first time Britney has been engaged, and the singer has had more than her fair share of heartache in the past.
In a marriage that lasted just 55 hours before being annulled, the star was previously wed to her childhood friend Jason Alexander at Las Vegas' Little White Wedding Chapel.
She also tied the knot to backup dancer Kevin Federline, the father of her two boys, in 2004, before divorcing in 2007.
Bonding over sushi
Despite previous heartache, Britney never gave up on finding true love, and Sam and Britney were first romantically linked on the set of Britney’s Slumber Party music video nearly five years ago.
Sam was a backup dancer, and the duo initially bonded over their love of sushi, while waiting together in between takes.
Britney, said: "[I said] we should go for sushi one day… and he goes 'Ok, I'll give you my number after the [shoot].'"
Speaking to Men's Health, Sam recalled meeting Britney, saying: "I was excited that I [would] get to meet one of the biggest artists of all time… I had butterflies."
A near miss
However, their romance almost didn't happen.
Britney initially misplaced Sam's number, only to find it in her bag nearly five months later.
She added: "I was like, 'He was really cute, this guy was really cute,' so I called him. He’s just a really fun, funny person."
'He inspires me to be a better person'
The couple began chatting and enjoyed a series of dates getting to know one another.
They attended the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala in February 2017, and spent Valentine’s day together at a $30 million villa in Malibu.
In September that year they spent the day at Disneyland, and celebrated their one year anniversary the following February with a gushing social media post.
"I’ve been with this man for over a year," Britney captioned a photo of the couple.
"Every day he inspires me to be a better person and that makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world!!"
Thankfully Britney, who suffered a very public breakdown in 2007 following her split from Federline, could rely on Sam for support when she checked into a mental health facility in 2019.
Sam publicly supported her, posting: "It isn’t weakness, it's a sign of absolute strength, people should only be inspired by this, at least I am. #stronger"
A source revealed Sam was looking after the singer and cooking her healthy meals, telling People: "There is no question that Sam is great for Britney. He has a very positive influence on her."
His efforts were acknowledged by Britney on social media, with the mum-of-two praising her future husband for helping her through the "hardest years of my life."
The pair went on to attend a string of red carpet events together, with Sam speaking to Entertainment Tonight about their relationship, saying: "It’s so normal, it’s not glamorous or anything…
"She inspires me in my work and I can give so much to her by going to the gym, by going to work, by having a balanced life."
'She leans on him for everything'
Sam has also stood by Britney's side during her very public legal battle with her father over her conservatorship.
Following the singer's explosive court appearance, a source revealed that Asghari has been the singer's "rock", saying: "She leans on him for everything."
Britney's engagement is a huge step for Britney, who previously told court she wants to marry her boyfriend and have a baby, but that the conservatorship would not allow it.
Speaking about her raunchy Instagram snaps, she also revealed after years of being with Sam she is finally feeling more body confident.
She said: "I feel like performing made me too self conscious about my body and that’s not attractive…
"I am a woman …. a beautiful … sensitive woman who needs to look at myself in my purest form!"
After years of restrictions and battles, could Britney have finally found happiness? We hope so.
