James sinks to devastating new low in Hollyoaks amid war with McQueens

James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) left Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) in tears in Hollyoaks after he took drastic action in a bid to punish her family.

The lawyer, as viewers know, has been consumed with grief in the wake of Juliet’s (Niamh Blackshaw) death, but things escalated rather dramatically when the McQueens destroyed a memory stick featuring a video of his dear sister intended for him.

Despite this being a genuine mistake, James has since waged war on the family, doing everything in his power to have them evicted from their home, all the while desperately trying to get one over on them at every given opportunity.

Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) and Romeo (Owen Warner) have tried to talk sense into him to no avail, with Thursday’s (August 10) first look offering of the Channel 4 soap seeing him take his most drastic action to date.

Calling in a favour, James asked a mate of his have Bobby Costello (Jayden Fox) transferred to another children’s home in Devon, which means that Mercedes can no longer see her son.

The news came as a devastating blow to Mercedes, while James was left cruelly grinning from ear-to-ear at her misfortune.

Will he come to realise the error of his ways? Or is he too far gone? What’s more, will Mercedes ever get to see her little boy again?

Bobby, as viewers know, has been sentenced to decades behind bars for claiming the lives of three people in addition to trying to kill a fourth.

The truth about his murder spree was exposed last year, with the killer being arrested and taken into custody before being sentenced.

Bobby initially cut ties with his mum, but he ultimately realised that he wanted her in his life, sharing a heart-to-heart with her during one particular visit, but how will he cope now that he’s so far away from his loved ones?

Hollyoaks continues Friday August 11 at 7pm on E4 or stream the next episode on All4.
