John Barrowman returns to Doctor Who as Captain Jack Harkness due epic comeback

John Barrowman is set to return to Doctor Who for the festive special and we can’t wait.

The 53-year-old is reprising his role as the beloved Captain Jack Harkness, revealing he’s ‘thrilled’ to return to the sci-fi and take on the Doctor’s most famous enemy – the Daleks.

‘Putting on Jack’s coat and setting foot back on the set of Doctor Who was just like going back home,’ he explained. ‘It’s always thrilling to play Captain Jack.

‘He’s a character very close to my heart who changed my life, and to know the fans love him as much as I do makes his return even sweeter. I hope everyone enjoys Jack’s Heroic adventure with Thirteen.’

Executive producer Chris Chibnall added of John’s return for Revolution of the Daleks: ‘A Doctor Who Festive Special means treats galore, and there’s no bigger treat than the return of John Barrowman to Doctor Who, for an epic and emotional feature-length episode.

‘If anyone can blast away the sheer rubbishness of 2020, it’s Captain Jack. Daleks beware!’

John first appeared as Captain Jack in 2005’s The Empty Child. He went on to star in spin-off Torchwood, and most recently surprised fans with his return to Doctor Who in Fugitive of the Judoon earlier this year.

John will be joining Jodie Whittaker (The Doctor), Mandip Gill (Yaz Khan), Bradley Walsh (Graham O’Brien), and Tosin Cole (Ryan Sinclair) for Revolution of the Daleks.

With the Doctor trapped in a space prison, Jack is on hand to help the trio as they discover a disturbing plan forming involving the Doctor’s most dangerous enemies.

Following a cliffhanger ending to series 12, showrunner Chris previously said of the festive special: ‘We can’t leave the Doctor there! On that cliffhanger!

‘Well, we did. But rest assured, the Doctor and her friends will be back for a one-off extended Special around Christmas and New Year.

‘I don’t know when they’re going to put it on yet, otherwise we’d tell you! There will be Daleks. There will be exterminations. Thrills, laughter, tears. You know. The usual. See you at the end of the year.’

Revolution of the Daleks will air over the festive period on BBC One.
